SSP942017-09-14. Service bulletin. Mazda Motor Corporation has decided to conduct a Special Service Program (SSP) on certain 2009-2011 Tribute vehicles. On certain 2009-2011 Tribute vehicles, contamination on the internal motor contacts of the throttle body may result in intermittent electrical connectivity. If this condition is present, the Malfunction Indicator Lamp or Wrench Lamp will illuminate, and the vehicle may enter fail-safe mode. In this mode, the engine power and vehicle speed is reduced, while maintaining full functionality of the power steering, power braking, lighting, and climate control systems. To improve vehicle performance should the above problem occur, dealers must reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Please refer to Attachment II for repair details. This SSP will be in effect until July 31, 2015 regardless of mileage.
MT-014-172017-08-10. Service bulletin. Whenever you are reprogramming a PCM or any other module, always use the GR8 Battery Charger in the Power Supply mode to prevent the battery from discharging.

TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, SOME MASS PRODUCTION CHANGES HAVE BEEN IMPLEMENTED TO REDUCE CONTAMINATION AND IMPROVE THE DTC DIAGNOSTIC LOGIC. NOTE: IF THE VEHICLE ALSO HAS A DELAYED ENGAGEMENT CONCERN, THIS TSB IS NOT APPLICABLE. REFER TO MS3 ONLINE INSTRUCTIONS OR WORKSHOP MANUAL FOR PROPER DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR PROCEDURE.

THE NOISE: • DEPENDS ON THE VEHICLE’S SPEED ONLY (THE MORE SPEED, THE MORE NOISE) • OCCURS WITH ALL TYPES OF DRIVING (ACCELERATION, DECELERATION, STEADY SPEED) • DOES NOT DEPEND ON RPM, GEAR, OR ATF TEMPERATURE. THIS IS CAUSED BY A DAMAGED BEARING IN THE TRANSAXLE DUE TO IMPROPER CONFIGURATION OF THE TRANSAXLE CASE.
