Technician will need to flush and refill the power steering system with Lucas Power Steering Fluid with Conditioners. Technician will replace the power steering pump with the latest design if the fluid is not available.
PI0639C2017-08-15. Service bulletin. This preliminary informational bulletin provides a procedure to apply dielectric grease and a piece of adhesive shim stock to the steering angle sensor connector to correct a condition of service stabilitak message displayed in DIC and DTC C0455 or C0710
PIP4716F2017-08-15. Service bulletin. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that may have a short, sharp rattle noise from the front of the engine at start up. Technician may find Diagnostic Trouble Codes P0011 P0014 P0016 or P0017. Technician will need to inspect the engine belt. If the vehicle is equipped with a hydraulic power steering, technician will need to verify the power steering pulley outer edge is aligned flush with shaft and repair as needed. If pulley alignment is correct or vehicle does not have hydraulic steering, replace the engine belt. If the noise is still present and it is coming from the cam actuators they will need to be replaced.

SOME 2006-2009 MODEL YEAR CHEVROLET HHR (NON-TURBO) AND 2003 MODEL YEAR SATURN ION VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH ELECTRIC POWER STEERING MAY EXPERIENCE A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST THAT COULD OCCUR AT ANY TIME WHILE DRIVING. IF THE POWER STEERING ASSIST IS LOST, A MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED ON THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER AND A CHIME SOUNDS TO INFORM THE DRIVER. STEERING CONTROL CAN BE MAINTAINED, AS THE VEHICLE WILL REVERT TO A MANUAL STEERING MODE, BUT WOULD REQUIRE GREATER DRIVER EFFORT AT LOW VEHICLE SPEEDS, WHICH COULD RESULT IN AN INCREASED RISK OF A CRASH. DEALERS ARE TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING MOTOR.
