What is wrong

Issue:

On certain trucks, the recall repairs completed by a Ford dealer during recall 24S37 (Transport Canada recall no. 2024-346) may not have been done correctly. As a result, a second repair is required.

On certain trucks, a problem with the output shaft speed sensor could cause the transmission to downshift suddenly to first gear. If this happens, there could be a loss of control.

Safety Risk:

A loss of control could create the risk of a crash.

Corrective Actions:

Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your truck to a dealership to update the powertrain control module software.

TSB 22-22192022-06-27. Service bulletin. Some 2003-2020 Expedition/Navigator and 2006-2020 F-150 (non-Raptor) vehicles equipped with 4WD may exhibit grinding/clicking/ratcheting noise from the front wheel area. This may be due to partial engagement of the integrated wheel ends (IWE). To correct this condition, follow the Service Procedure to remove and cap the vacuum supply line or to reprogram the transfer case control module (TCCM) and replace any worn vacuum and/or IWE components.
TSB 21-20762021-04-03. Service bulletin. Some 2013-2018 F-150 vehicles equipped with electronic shift on-the-fly (ESOF) 4-wheel drive (4WD) may exhibit an intermittent grinding noise while driving in 2-wheel drive (2WD) mode most commonly on acceleration. ESOF can be identified as it does not have a 4WD AUTO (4A) position on the mode selector switch (MSS). This may be due to a loss of vacuum to the integrated wheel end (IWE) actuators and/or wear of the IWE components. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to reprogram the transfer case control module (TCCM) and replace any worn vacuum and/or IWE components.
TSB 20-22782020-11-05. Service bulletin. This may be due to a loss of vacuum to the integrated wheel end (IWE) actuators and/or wear of the IWE components. TSB 19-22522019-09-06. Service bulletin. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to replace the worn vacuum and/or IWE components.
SSM 479762019-06-07. Service bulletin. On vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission it is imperative that the converter pilot hub be greased with Motorcraft Multi-Purpose Grease Spray XL-5-A even if grease was not applied from the factory. Also verify that the engine/transmission alignment dowel pins are present as well as the engine crankshaft dowel pin, if equipped, when installing the transmission. Failure to adequately lubricate the converter hub greatly increases the likelihood of the flexplate cracking in the future. Missing dowels may cause a misalignment issue also resulting in a premature failure. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 307-01.
SSM 469002018-01-29. Service bulletin. Some vehicles may exhibit a no start condition with an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) and a DTC P161A after PCM replacement. This may be due to the parameter reset procedure not being properly completed. To clear this DTC, use the Ford Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) service tool or Ford J2534 Diagnostic Software, select - Toolbox - Body - Security - PATS Functions - Parameter Reset. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the procedure. This procedure will transfer the existing Key ID information between the modules without the need of having 2 programmed PATS keys present. There is no need to program keys when the PCM is going to be replaced. Additional information can be found in the Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 419-01. Missing or lost keys are not warrantable.
SSM 464512017-05-17. Service bulletin. 2009-2017 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 6R80, 6R100, 6R140 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HAVE AN UPDATED MAIN CONTROL VALVE BODY OVERHAUL PROCEDURE. REFER TO WORKSHOP MANUAL (WSM), SECTION 307-01 FOR MAIN CONTROL VALVE BODY (7A100) OVERHAUL PROCEDURES. NOT ALL VALVE BODIES REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. INSPECT THE VALVE BODY BORES, SPRINGS AND VALVES AS DIRECTED DURING DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR. REFER TO GENERAL SERVICE BULLETIN (GSB) G0000093 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION MAIN CONTROL INSPECTION FOR A VIDEO CLIP TO AID IN THE DIAGNOSIS OF THESE REPAIRS.
