What is wrong
Issue:
On certain plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models, there may be a problem inside the high-voltage battery. As a result, one or more of the cells in the battery could short circuit and overheat. If this happens, the battery could turn off and cause a loss of power to the wheels.
Safety Risk:
A sudden loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. A high-voltage battery that overheats could create a fire risk.
Corrective Actions:
Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to test the battery energy control module (BECM). If the test results show a problem with high-voltage battery pack, it will be replaced.

Bulletins for the same vehicles and component
| SSM 50182 | 2021-10-29. Service bulletin. Some 2020 Aviator vehicles built on or before 01-Aug-2019 may exhibit a symptom where the vehicle only shows 5 pages for presets instead of 6 pages. This may be due to the software in the accessory protocol interface module (APIM) SYNC module. Download and run the APIM Configuration application in the Ford Diagnostic and Repair System (FDRS) scan tool. If asked if the original module is still installed, answer NO. For claiming, use causal part 14G371 and applicable labor operations in Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual. |

| SSM 50048 | 2021-09-04. Service bulletin. Some 2020-2021 Corsair/Aviator/Navigator vehicles may have diagnostic trouble code (DTC) U3000:49 DTC stored in the remote function actuator (RFA) module preventing paring-connecting any phone as a key to the vehicle. If this DTC is detected during pre-delivery inspection (PDI) or while diagnosing phone as a key pare/connection issue, remove the RFA fuse or disconnect the battery terminals for minimum of 5 minutes then reinstall. Start a new FDRS session and verify that U3000:49 is no longer present. Ensure that phone as a key is enabled and a phone can be paired to the vehicle. If the concern is still present, follow normal diagnostics procedures in Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 419-01C. |
A bulletin is the manufacturer's note to its dealers. It is not part of this recall.
