What is wrong

Issue:

Certain vehicles were built with tires that may have been cured too long. As a result, the sidewall could crack or the tread and belts could separate. This could lead to a sudden loss of air pressure and could cause a tire failure.

Note: This recall only affects certain Continental tires, with specific date codes and mold numbers.

Safety Risk:

A tire failure could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash.

Corrective Actions:

Ford will notify the owners by mail and instruct them to take the vehicle to a dealer to inspect and replace the tires, if necessary.

Bulletins for the same vehicles and component
SSM 488592020-06-04. Service bulletin. Some 2020 F-Super Duty vehicles built on or before 24-Feb-2020 may not have the instrument panel cluster (IPC) configured for operation with the Factory Invoiced Accessory (FIA) or as a Genuine Ford Accessory trailer tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The customer may indicate that they cannot monitor the trailer TPMS through the IPC when a configured trailer is connected. If the 'Trailer Tire Pressure' selection is not available in the IPC, the IPC will need to be reconfigured to make the Trailer Tire Pressure selection available. Using the latest version of the FDRS scan tool, reconfigure the IPC. For claiming use causal part 10849 and refer to Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.
SSM 479922019-06-07. Service bulletin. Some 2017-2019 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) may exhibit a leak at the tire valve stem. The tire valve stem has been released as a separate service part kit. The new service part kit is available and it does not include the TPMS sensor. When replacing only the tire valve stem follow the procedure in Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 204-04A. For claiming, use causal part 1700 and applicable labor operations in Section 01 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.
SSM 476342019-01-07. Service bulletin. Some 2013-2019 Escape and 2015-2019 MKC vehicles may exhibit a vibration attributed to the tires. Prior to performing any road force balancing procedures or related diagnosis, make sure the vehicle tire pressure is correct and is driven a minimum of 24 Km (15 miles) to eliminate any possible flat spotting conditions and potential misdiagnosis. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 204-04A for further information. In addition, it is recommended that diagnosis of tire/wheel vibration should not be performed on tires with less than 320 Km (200 miles). Some initial tire/wheel vibration issues (such as flat spotting) may correct themselves after the tires have been in service for 320 Km (200 miles). Setting tire pressure to the correct placard pressure is contained within pre-delivery inspection.
TSB 18-23312019-01-07. Service bulletin. Some 2017-2019 Escape vehicles may exhibit a vibration at highway speeds above 80 Km/h (50 MPH) which may be attributed to short term flat spotting in the tires. Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SSM 471912018-05-21. Service bulletin. Some 2017-2018 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) may exhibit a leak at the tire valve stem. When making repairs to the tire valve stem, there is a service kit available that does not include the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) sensor. When replacing the tire valve stem follow the procedure in Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 204-04A. For claiming, use causal part 1700 and applicable labor operations in Section 01 of the service labor time standards (SLTS) manual.
