What is wrong

Issue:

On certain vehicles, the high-pressure fuel pumps (HPFP) may have been attached to the cylinder head incorrectly. Over time, this could cause the flange of the HPFP to crack. This could result in a fuel leak in the engine compartment.

Safety Risk:

A fuel leak in the engine compartment could increase the risk of a fire.

Corrective Actions:

BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to replace the high-pressure fuel pumps.

Bulletins for the same vehicles and component

Bulletins for the same vehicles and component
B1601232024-02-01. Service bulletin. A vehicle arrives at your center to be diagnosed for a micro-leak in the fuel evaporative (EVAP) system(NVLD natural vacuum leak detection). For this condition, the following fault is stored in the DME: 190302 - fuel tank ventilation and scavenging air system, micro-leak: leakage more than 0.5mm For: Model vehicles other that the ones listed above, or for EVAP faults related to a “large leak,” after confirming that the fuel filler cap is fitted properly, then, proceed to follow the corresponding test plan
B1606232024-01-03. Service bulletin. Engine will crank but not start. There is no communication with the integrated fuel module (TFE) whendiagnosing with ISTA. The following two fault codes will be stored in the DME: 032B43 - Low fuel pressure system, electric fuel pump: pressure value too low CDA594 - Message (- 0x33E) missing, receiver DME, transmitter TFE
B1601232023-07-24. Service bulletin. A vehicle arrives at your center to be diagnosed for a micro-leak in the fuel evaporative (EVAP) system (NVLD natural vacuum leak detection). For this condition, the following fault is stored in the DME: 190302 - fuel tank ventilation and scavenging air system, micro-leak: leakage more than 0.5 mm.
SIB1702202022-10-17. Service bulletin. Symptom 1: There are traces of coolant leaking under the vehicle, or there is significant pressure released along with coolant loss when opening the low temperature cooling system reservoir (engine cold). The following fault code may also be stored in the DME: 20A201 - Charge air cooling system: Coolant pump protective function activated due to dry running Symptom 2*: The air conditioning may have low cooling output with the following fault stored in the IHKA: 80120A - Compressor: Shut down due to overpressure in refrigerant system. Symptom 2 is an additional symptom related to Symptom 1. Diagnose the IHKA fault with ISTA test plans if it is the only fault stored (if no DME faults are stored related to coolant loss, this bulletin repair does not apply).
SIB1602222022-08-22. Service bulletin. The fuel gauge may indicate the incorrect fuel level (full and reserve).
B1603212022-06-21. Service bulletin. A fuel leak may develop from the fuel tank.
B1105212022-05-31. Service bulletin. The belt pulley on the mechanical coolant pump may fracture allowing the engine drive belt to come off the coolant pump and alternator.
B1601222022-05-16. Service bulletin. During manufacturing, the evaporative lines for the EVAP system may have been routed incorrectly. This could result in a Service Engine Soon (MIL) lamp turning on.
B1105212022-02-22. Service bulletin. The belt pulley on the mechanical coolant pump may fracture allowing the engine drive belt to come off the coolant pump and alternator.
SIB1602212021-12-13. Service bulletin. The hose clamp connecting the fuel filler pipe to the fuel tank may have been positioned incorrectly. Furthermore, owing to its larger outer diameter, the filler pipe installed in the vehicle cannot be positioned up to the end position in the connecting hose.

A bulletin is the manufacturer's note to its dealers. It is not part of this recall.
