What is wrong
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2018 F-150, 2018-2020 F-250, F-350, and 2019 Escape vehicles equipped with Continental tires. On the affected vehicles, it is possible that one or more tires were cured for too long during tire production.
What can happen
Over cured tires may develop a break in the sidewall, resulting in sudden air loss or belt edge separation which could lead to tread/belt loss. Either condition can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the tires, and replace them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on March 27, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 21S10.
Notes
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Bulletins for the same vehicles and component
| SSM 48859 | 2020-06-04. Service bulletin. Some 2020 F-Super Duty vehicles built on or before 24-Feb-2020 may not have the instrument panel cluster (IPC) configured for operation with the Factory Invoiced Accessory (FIA) or as a Genuine Ford Accessory trailer tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The customer may indicate that they cannot monitor the trailer TPMS through the IPC when a configured trailer is connected. If the 'Trailer Tire Pressure' selection is not available in the IPC, the IPC will need to be reconfigured to make the Trailer Tire Pressure selection available. Using the latest version of the FDRS scan tool, reconfigure the IPC. For claiming use causal part 10849 and refer to Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual. |
|---|---|
| SSM 47992 | 2019-06-07. Service bulletin. Some 2017-2019 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) may exhibit a leak at the tire valve stem. The tire valve stem has been released as a separate service part kit. The new service part kit is available and it does not include the TPMS sensor. When replacing only the tire valve stem follow the procedure in Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 204-04A. For claiming, use causal part 1700 and applicable labor operations in Section 01 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual. |
| SSM 47634 | 2019-01-07. Service bulletin. Some 2013-2019 Escape and 2015-2019 MKC vehicles may exhibit a vibration attributed to the tires. Prior to performing any road force balancing procedures or related diagnosis, make sure the vehicle tire pressure is correct and is driven a minimum of 24 Km (15 miles) to eliminate any possible flat spotting conditions and potential misdiagnosis. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 204-04A for further information. In addition, it is recommended that diagnosis of tire/wheel vibration should not be performed on tires with less than 320 Km (200 miles). Some initial tire/wheel vibration issues (such as flat spotting) may correct themselves after the tires have been in service for 320 Km (200 miles). Setting tire pressure to the correct placard pressure is contained within pre-delivery inspection. |
| TSB 18-2331 | 2019-01-07. Service bulletin. Some 2017-2019 Escape vehicles may exhibit a vibration at highway speeds above 80 Km/h (50 MPH) which may be attributed to short term flat spotting in the tires. Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition. |
| SSM 47191 | 2018-05-21. Service bulletin. Some 2017-2018 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) may exhibit a leak at the tire valve stem. When making repairs to the tire valve stem, there is a service kit available that does not include the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) sensor. When replacing the tire valve stem follow the procedure in Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 204-04A. For claiming, use causal part 1700 and applicable labor operations in Section 01 of the service labor time standards (SLTS) manual. |
