What is wrong
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2020 Ranger and F-150 vehicles equipped with 10-speed automatic transmissions and certain 2020 Expedition vehicles equipped with a "police" package. The transmission shift cable lock clip may not be fully seated, allowing the transmission to actually be in a different gear than the gear shift position selected by the driver.
What can happen
If the transmission selection does not match the indicated gear selection, and the parking brake is not applied, unintended vehicle movement can occur, increasing the risk of injury or crash.
The remedy
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and correct the shift cable locking clip installation, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began April 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S18.

Some 2017-2020 F-150, 2018-2021 Expedition/Navigator/Mustang, 2019-2023 Ranger vehicles equipped with a 10R80 transmission may exhibit a harsh/delayed engagement and/or harsh/delayed shift, an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble codes This may be due to the software in the powertrain control module (PCM) or transmission control module (TCM), the transmission solenoid ID strategy, sticking valves in the main control valve body and/or axial movement of the CDF clutch cylinder (7H351) sleeve. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to identify and correct the condition. |
|---|---|
| TSB 23-2256 | 2023-09-01. Service bulletin. Some 2020-2021 Expedition vehicles my exhibit a no restart during auto start-stop operation. This may be due to a software parameter in the PCM. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to reprogram the PCM. |
| TSB 23-2011 | 2023-01-31. Service bulletin. Some 2019-2022 Ranger vehicles may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304 and/or P0316 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to water build up in the spark plug well(s) which can lead to signs of corrosion on ignition system components. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to resolve the source of all DTCs and to install an engine appearance cover. |
| TSB 22-2137 | 2022-06-27. Service bulletin. Some 2018-2020 F-150 vehicles equipped with a 2.7L EcoBoost and 2020-2021 Expedition/Navigator may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0420 and/or P0430 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to high sulfur content in the fuel. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to de-sulfate the catalytic convertors. |
| SSM 50549 | 2022-03-08. Service bulletin. This DTC is due to a processing error in the PCM as a result of on-demand self testing. P0000 is an invalid DTC that will not illuminate the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) and no repairs should be performed. |
| TSB 22-2025 | 2022-02-16.
