Service bulletins for the 2006 Volkswagen Touareg

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

332 on file from NHTSA, as of 2026-10-19.

V171302 20178132017-12-14. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Technical Bulletin (Oil Consumption Measurement): Customer states oil consumption is higher than the Volkswagen oil consumption standard of up to 0.5 quarts per 600 miles, or 0.5 liters per 1000 km. In order to provide effective lubrication and cooling of internal engine components, all internal combustion engines consume a certain amount of engine oil. Oil consumption varies from engine to engine and may change significantly over the life of the engine. Typically, engines with specified break-in periods consume more oil during the break-in period, and the oil consumption will stabilize after the break-in period. This document informs of oil consumption tests to check a vehicles performance.
V171403 20178132017-12-05. Service bulletin. ENGINE. Refer to the Owners Manual for specific break-in procedures. Under normal conditions, the rate of oil consumption depends on the quality and viscosity of the oil, the RPM at which the engine is operated, the ambient temperature and road conditions. Further factors include the amount of oil dilution from water condensation or fuel residue and the oxidation level of the oil. This document discusses the "Fault Codes" necessary to diagnosis, and potential remedy of the issue. The fault codes for checking warranty coverage for servicing the vehicle are also available.
V011408 20148152017-12-05. Service bulletin. ENGINE. Technical Bulletin The use of contaminated gasoline, seasonal fuel changes (summer/winter fuel) or gasoline with a low content of deposit control additives may result in one or more of the following conditions: -Excessive accumulation of deposits on intake valves, intake manifold, fuel injectors and combustion chambers. -Engine runs rough after cold start. -Excessive engine cranking time. -Stumbles while driving. -Rough engine idle. -Loss of engine performance. -Poor fuel economy. This document informs of the procedure for the vehicle if it is diagnoised with poor quality gas
V871506 20199472017-11-08. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:APPLIANCE:AIR CONDITIONER; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Technical Bulletin (Air Conditioning, Cleaning of the Refrigerant Circuit (U.S.Only)): In cases where an air conditioning system component (such as a compressor or other system component) has failed and debris from the compressor or component is circulated throughout the refrigerant circuit, the refrigerant circuit must be cleaned of any and all debris or damage to the replacement components will result. This document contains information on how to diagnose, and service this issue.
V871508 20055662017-11-08. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Technical Bulletin (HVAC, Unpleasant Odor): Unpleasant odor is coming from Heating and Ventilation system. Odor mainly occurs after vehicle has been sitting (unused) at least 5 hours and within 20 to 60 seconds after vehicle is first started. This document contains information on how to diagnose, and service this issue.
V001413 20338462017-11-08. Service bulletin. ENGINE. Technical Bulletin (Fuel Additive to Help Prevent Sporadic Misfire Faults): Fuel quality impacts the operating performance, efficiency and service life of the engine. The use of poor quality fuels may result in deposit build up on the fuel injectors and intake valves. This may result in a rough running condition, sporadic misfires, or cold start misfire faults storing in the ECM fault memory. This document informs a Volkswagen approved fuel additive is available to help remove and prevent deposits on fuel injectors and intake valves.
V001401 20338462017-11-08. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:OTHER FUEL TYPES:TURBO/SUPERCHARGER. A Volkswagen approved fuel additive is available to help remove and prevent deposits on fuel injectors and intake valves.
