Service bulletins for the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

1595 on file from NHTSA, as of 2026-10-19.

The valet key is used to lock the glove box, ski pass-through door (if equipped), and the emergency seat back release cover only. The valet switch in the glove box can be activated to disable the rear lid release switches (including remote function), and then lock the glove box with the valet key. The customer then keeps the plastic valet key and gives the valet the remote flip key.

If no communication can be established to the Vehicle electrical system control module J519 (address word 09) in Guided Fault Finding or Vehicle Self Diagnosis, it may be necessary to cycle door locks. It is recommended to cycle both the remote locks and the driver?s door lock switch when attempting to communicate to the module with the scan tool. Ensure all vehicle doors are unlocked before communication is retried.
TT5014012023-07-10. Service bulletin. WHEELS; TIRES. The use of tire dressing gives your tires that shiny finish that completes the image of a clean (new) vehicle. There are many different tire dressing products available. When choosing a product please pay close attention to its contents. Always use a water based product.

BACK OVER PREVENTION; STEERING:RACK AND PINION:RACK; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:ADAS:PARKING ASSIST:SENSORS; POWER TRAIN; STEERING; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; STEERING:STEERING CONTROL MODULE. Some Golf, GTI, Jetta, and Passat vehicles equipped with electromechanical power steering have the G85 steering angle sensor located in the steering rack. These vehicles do not have a G85 in the steering column. To determine G85 location, check the J500 Power steering control module part number in the GFF printout. Do not use the part number on the steering rack for this check.
TT4509032023-07-10. Service bulletin. AIR BAGS; STEERING; SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:POWER ASSIST:ELECTRIC:CONTROL MODULE; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; STEERING:RACK AND PINION:RACK. If, after replacement of the steering rack, fault code 01309 008 is set in the ABS/ESP module only, follow the test plan in GFF for Driver Steering Recommendation (DSR) or channel 3 activation. If the test plan fails to clear the fault, follow the direction below using Vehicle Self Diagnosis in Address Word 44 - Steering Assistance
TT45061222023-07-10. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:INSTRUMENT PANEL:SPEEDOMETER/ODOMETER:SENSOR/SENDING UNIT; SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:ANTILOCK:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE. Use the following procedure to diagnose active wheel speed sensor complaints
TT2013022023-07-10. Service bulletin. FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER:DELIVERY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS; EQUIPMENT; EQUIPMENT:OTHER:OWNERS/SERVICE/OTHER MANUAL. Be aware that fuel lines are color coded on vehicles with return fuel pressure lines. The black line is for fuel pressure supply and the blue line is for fuel pressure return. To verify correct line installation, remove the metal cover exposing the fuel pump flange assembly (generally under the rear seat). Refer to the ELSA Repair Manual for specific location. Check for raised arrows on the flange housing. The black line (Fuel Pressure Supply) attaches to the connection with the arrow pointing away from it. The blue line (fuel return) attaches to the connection with arrow pointing to it.
TT201301a2023-07-10. Service bulletin. UNKNOWN OR OTHER; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECU/ECM); FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER. To clear static ECM fault P1250 ?Fuel Level Too Low?, add fuel to vehicle and complete a road test of at least 10 miles. Simply adding fuel without completing a road test may not allow fault to clear.
TT2013012023-07-10. Service bulletin. FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECU/ECM); UNKNOWN OR OTHER. To clear static ECM fault P1250 ?Fuel Level Too Low?, add fuel to vehicle and complete a road test of at least 10 miles. Simply adding fuel without completing a road test may not allow fault to clear.
TT2009062023-07-10. Service bulletin. FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:DIESEL; FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:GASOLINE:TURBO/SUPERCHARGER. Use the diagram below to test the N75 Solenoid Valve in the event of a turbocharger fault code such as P0299 or P0234. This applies to Mechanical Injection Style Diesel Engines, Pumpe Duse Style Diesel Engines and the new Common Rail Style Diesel Engines.
TT1913022023-07-10. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Inspect the water pump for signs of contact with engine oil. Engine oil may cause the water pump gasket to swell, which may lead to a coolant leak. If water pump replacement is necessary, ensure that any engine oil is thoroughly cleaned off, prior to water pump installation. Please note that when replacing the water pump or opening the cooling system, there is a special bleed procedure that has to be performed. Vacuum bleed the cooling system for 10 minutes. Start the engine and let idle until the thermostat opens and the cooling fan runs, before driving vehicle or raising engine RPM.
TT1913012023-07-10. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. After a cold start, the engine coolant temperature gauge will slowly rise to approximately 190° F. When the F265 mapped thermostat opens, the gauge may drop by approximately 60° F before again rising to 190° F. No repairs should be attempted for this normal concern. F265 is pictured below.
TT1713012023-07-10. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:OIL/LUBRICATION:FILTER/SCREEN. Check under the oil filter for the mandrel to be missing. This must be transferred from the old filter and re-installed. The most likely scenario for this to occur is after an oil change.
TT131301a2023-07-10. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. When servicing the timing chain sprocket or removing the vibration damper, be aware that one bolt holds both the vibration damper (harmonic balancer) and the crankshaft timing chain sprocket to the crankshaft. Once the damper is removed, the crankshaft should not be rotated unless special tool spacer T10368 has been installed. The crankshaft timing chain sprocket and spur gear drive on the crankshaft have a coupling that must be seated correctly during assembly. Failure to install special tool spacer T10368 before rotating engine will cause the engine to skip time and bend valves.

The summaries are NHTSA's. Each bulletin's page links NHTSA's copy of the manufacturer's document.
