Service bulletins for the 2012 Nissan Altima
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

| NTB15055 | 2021-05-10. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL. SERVICE INFORMATION After ECM reprogramming, the Calibration Verification Number (CVN) needs to be automatically calculated prior to State emissions testing (also known as Inspection Maintainence, I/M, or SMOG testing depending upon location). Allowing the vehicle to idle for 22 minutes will allow for faster CVN calculation. It is recommended that customers utilize this method if the vehicle needs to be tested for emissions soon after ECM reprogramming. See this bulletin for further detail. |
| NTB14109 | 2021-05-10. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ENGINE. SERVICE INFORMATION Starting with 2010 Model Year, Nissan vehicles have been gradually incorporating a new type of DTC known as Permanent DTC or P-DTC. If a vehicle is equipped with P-DTCs, all emission related DTCs will also set a P-DTC if the MIL is turned ON. A listing of which DTCs that will also set a P-DTC is found in the DTC Index in the EC-Engine Control section of the Electronic Service Manual (ESM). If a DTC repair is performed and the DTC erased, a vehicle may fail an Emission Inspection and Maintenance test if the P-DTC is not also erased. See this bulletin for further detail. |
| NTB12091A | 2021-05-10. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECU/ECM); ENGINE. SERVICE INFORMATION Replacement Engine Control Modules (ECMs) for many newer Nissan vehicles are now "Blank" ECMs. Blank ECMs come without software and must be programmed (not reprogrammed) before they will function. See this bulletin for further detail. |
| R1720 2010-12 Al | 2020-04-09. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Non-Methane Organic Gases (NMOG) Engine Control Module (ECM) Reprogram Voluntary Emission Recall Campaign ***** Campaign Summary ***** Nissan is conducting a Voluntary Emissions Recall Campaign on approximately 116,479 specific MY2010-12 Altima 2.5L SULEV vehicles identified in Service Comm to reprogram the Engine Control Module (ECM) to assure compliance with the applicable United States SULEV emission specifications. The subject vehicles may be equipped with an improperly calibrated ECM that, if not repaired, may potentially cause exhaust gas emissions to exceed standards at high mileage. This incident has no effect on safety, performance, drivability or fuel consumption. In addition to reprogramming the ECM, Nissan is also extending the emission warranty coverage on the front exhaust tube in the unlikely event that Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P2423 is present, to the following: *All other warranty terms remain the same. ***** What Dealers Should Do**** 1. Verify campaign applicability using Service Comm or DBS National Service History – Open Campaign I.D. R1720. 2. Dealers should use NTB20-022 to remedy any vehicles subject to this campaign. 3. Once repaired, dealers should submit the claim, using the claims coding provided, and release the vehicle. 4. For verification of warranty extension coverage, refer to the extended warranties section in Service Comm or DBS National service history. Coverage will be identified as: L32 NMOG EXT_DTC P2423 NTB20-020. |
| NTB20-022 | 2020-04-08. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. VOLUNTARY EMISSIONS RECALL CAMPAIGN 2010-2012 ALTIMA SEDAN AND COUPE (SULEV); ENGINE CONTROL MODULE INTRODUCTION Nissan is conducting this voluntary emissions recall campaign on certain specific model year 2010-2012 Altima Sedan and Coupe (SULEV) vehicles. The engine control module (ECM) will be inspected, and if needed, reprogrammed. This service will be performed at no charge to the customer for parts or labor. IDENTIFICATION NUMBER Nissan has assigned identification number R1720 to this campaign. This number must appear on all communication and documentation of any nature dealing with this campaign. DEALER RESPONSIBILITY It is the dealer’s responsibility to check Service COMM or Dealer Business Systems (DBS) National Service History for the campaign status on each vehicle falling within the range of this voluntary emissions recall which for any reason enters the service department. This includes vehicles purchased from private parties or presented by transient (tourist) owners and vehicles in a dealer’s inventory. Federal law requires that new vehicles in dealer inventory which are the subject of an emissions recall must be corrected prior to sale. Failure to do so can result in civil penalties and/or fines by the Environmental Protection Agency. While federal law applies only to new vehicles, Nissan strongly encourages dealers to correct any used vehicles in their inventory before they are retailed. |
