Service bulletins for the 2017 Mazda MX-5

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

09-011-19-35672019-03-11. Service bulletin. STRUCTURE:BODY:DOOR; VISIBILITY:GLASS, SIDE/REAR. Some vehicles may exhibit rust (A) on the front door quarter glass guide (B) where it contacts the door beltline molding (C). The paint on the quarter glass guide gets damaged from vibration when the door is closed and when driving. This concern is caused by the beltline molding contacting the quarter glass guide due to production variances. To correct this concern, a spacer has been attached at the contact area to assure an appropriate clearance between the beltline molding and the quarter glass guide.
MT-012-182019-03-04. Service bulletin. STRUCTURE:BODY; STEERING. If a vehicle has body vibration or steering wheel shimmy while driving and the root cause is determined to be tire balance, re-balance the tires using a Hunter GSP9700 or equivalent balance machine. If your dealer does not have a GSP9700 or equivalent balance machine, sublet the vehicle out for repair. To find the location of a GSP9700 near your dealer, visit Hunter?s web site at www.gsp9700.com and click on ?Locate a GSP9700 Road Force Balancer.?
09-008-19-35652019-02-19. Service bulletin. STRUCTURE. Some vehicles may experience stains appearing on the hood, roof and/or trunk of the vehicle. This concern is most likely to be found in cold weather areas just after the RAPGARD is removed at PDI. This may be caused by moisture which has been trapped and condensed between the paint and the RAPGARD. These types of stains can be removed with a heat gun or an infrared drier. If you encounter this concern during PDI, use a heat gun or an infrared drier to apply heat to the affected area to remove the stain(s).

09-014-18-3443a2018-11-13. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT; STRUCTURE. When encountering a vehicle with paint damage, refer to the "Mazda Pocket Paint Guide" to determine cause, prevention, remedy, and warranty coverage (if applicable). Copies of the Mazda Pocket Paint Guide are available for order on Mazda e-Store (part number: 9999-95-MPPG-12).
09-028-18-34902018-08-20. Service bulletin. STRUCTURE; SEATS. Some vehicles may exhibit scratches (1) on the rear of the seat back bar garnish (2) from contact with the convertible top (3). Due to assembly variations, the clearance between the seat back bar garnish and the convertible top is too small on some vehicles. On later 2016 models (starting with VINs JM1ND******117681), the link stopper of the convertible top has been changed to adjust the opening angle and folding position of the convertible top. This increased the gap between the seat back bar garnish and the convertible top when folded down. On these later models, the issue seems to occur if the customer does not completely lock the convertible top down when lowered. NOTE: Make the customer aware that the top needs to be completely locked down when lowered to prevent this from happening. With the convertible top lowered, press down on both the front and rear areas of the top (as shown with the arrows) until a latch sound is heard and the top does not pop up.
SA-024-182018-07-02. Service bulletin. STRUCTURE:BODY:HOOD. Some customers may complain of a lack of power under heavy load without any warning lights or DTCs. This concern may be due to a loose or detached hood weatherstrip, which can cause a blockage or restriction in the air intake system.

Some vehicles may exhibit a wind noise (A) from the area between the front (B) and middle (C) roofs when driving at speeds over 37 mph (60 km/h). Due to parts variation, some vehicles may have a poor sealing between the weatherstrips of the front and middle roofs, causing a wind noise. To improve the sealing ability, urethane foam pads have now been installed to the weatherstrips.

09-001-17-3296b2017-10-04. Service bulletin. EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS; STRUCTURE; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. When dealing with customer complaints of excessive condensation and/or water within the headlamp unit, first determine if all the bulb sockets (including O-ring), seals and covers are present and correctly installed. In most cases you will find that the Bulb Seal No. 1 (A) or HID Bulb Seal No. 1 (B) and Bulb Seal No. 2 (C) socket covers have not been correctly installed or are missing due to improper prior repairs (i.e., customer replacing the headlamp bulbs or body shop not transferring them when replacing the headlamp unit(s) due to a collision). Any damage caused by missing socket covers, HID module seal (D), or missing bumper brackets (E) is not covered by warranty policy.

The summaries are NHTSA's. Each bulletin's page links NHTSA's copy of the manufacturer's document.
