Service bulletins for the 2012 Mazda CX-9

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

05-002-21-38542022-01-06. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. Automatic Transmission/Transaxle Cooler and Lines Flushing Procedure: Automatic Transaxle/Transmission (A/T) oil cooler and lines must be power flushed completely before an overhauled or replacement A/T is installed (except SKYACTIV-DRIVE). The most common cause of repeat A/T failures is lack of lubrication to the front and rear planetary gears. This is usually caused by an accumulation of metal particles and debris (from a previous A/T failure) on the internal mesh type baffle of the oil cooler. Power flushing will remove the restriction by back flushing, followed by forward flushing to dislodge a restriction, then back flushing again. This will in turn ensure full ATF flow for the transmission when it is operating.

05-001-18-34532018-05-14. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT; POWER TRAIN. Always be sure to use the correct automatic transmission fluid when replacing ATF. Using the wrong ATF may cause shift quality complaints or may even damage the transmission. NOTE: ATF M-V (TYPE M5) IS NOT THE SAME FLUID AS MERCON®V OR MERCON®LV ATF. ATF M-V (TYPE M5) HAS A GREATER VISCOSITY THAN MERCON®V AND MERCON®LV ATF IN LOW TEMPERATURES. ATF M-V (TYPE M5) HAS A GREATER ANTI-JUDDER SPECIFICATION THAN MERCON®V AND MERCON®LV ATF. TRANSMISSION FLUID FLUSHING SHOULD ONLY BE PERFORMED WHEN INSTRUCTED BY THE WORKSHOP MANUAL OR ANY OTHER MAZDA PUBLICATION.
SSP922017-09-14. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Mazda Motor Corporation is extending the warranty coverage for power transfer unit (PTU) replacement on certain 2010-2014 CX-9 vehicles with AWD and produced from July 28, 2009 through December 2, 2013. The warranty for this repair will be extended to 7 years (84 months) from the original warranty start date or 90,000 miles, whichever comes first. On some vehicles, when driving under high load or at high speeds, increased oil temperature inside the transfer unit may result in poor lubrication. Continued driving under these conditions may create abnormal noise, damage the transfer unit, and oil leakage. Dealers are instructed to replace the PTU. Please refer to Attachments I and II for details.
05-001-14-28762017-04-27. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM). SOME VEHICLES MAY EXPERIENCE ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING CONCERNS: • ENGINE SURGING CONCERN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN UP HILL WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON. • SHIFT SHOCK WHEN SHIFTING FROM N, R OR FROM P TO D. • SHIFT SHOCK WHEN DOWN SHIFTING FROM 5 TO 4. ENGINE SURGE CAUSE: DUE TO AN INADEQUATE CONTROL LOGIC OF THE TCM, THE THROTTLE VALVE REPEATS ON AND OFF BEFORE OBTAINING ENOUGH DRIVING FORCE TO MAINTAIN THE SET SPEED ON AN UP HILL ROAD. THE TCM CONTROL LOGIC HAS BEEN OPTIMIZED TO ELIMINATE ENGINE SURGE AS OF JAN. 15, 2013 VEHICLE PRODUCTION (VIN: JM3TB******410765). SHIFT SHOCK CAUSE: INADEQUATE LEARNING OF HYDRAULIC PRESSURE LEAKAGE BY THE TCM MAY OCCUR DEPENDING ON PRODUCTION VARIATION OF THE SEAL RING INSIDE THE TRANSAXLE. IN THIS CASE, CORRECTION OF THE HYDRAULIC PRESSURE DURING SHIFTING OPERATION IS NOT PROPERLY PERFORMED CAUSING A SHIFT SHOCK. THE TCM CONTROL LOGIC HAS BEEN OPTIMIZED TO ELIMINATE SHIFT SHOCK AS OF JUL. 17, 2013 VEHICLE PRODUCTION (VIN: JM3TB******424854).
