VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS BUILT WITH BENDIX AIR ABS WITH AN EC-17 1030R ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (ECU), THERE HAVE BEEN REPORTS OF UNWANTED ABS ACTIVATION AT LOW SPEEDS CAUSED BY 1) CHAFED ABS WHEEL SPEED SENSOR WIRES ON ROTATING PARTS OR 2) A DAMAGED COMPONENT AT THE WHEEL END THAT GENERATES A CERTAIN TYPE OF ERRATIC SENSOR SIGNAL. 20021892002-10-15. Brakes. On certain vehicles, additional axles were installed to increase the gross vehicle weight capacity but the parking brake capacity was not increased accordingly therefore not complying with CMVSS 121 regulations. Correction: The dealer will perform repairs as necessary.
20002482000-10-26. Engine. On certain vehicles, the return springs on the accelerator pedals are made of stainless steel or electroplated music wire. The design fatigue stress of the stainless steel springs is in a range that would predict that some failures would occur. The music wire springs can fail due to stress risers created by electrical arcing during electroplating. Correction: Accelerator pedals will be replaced with ones equipped with return springs manufactured of music wire with one additional coil on each spring and with an organic coating, eliminating electroplating.
