Service bulletins for the 2018 Hyundai Sonata

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

In a gasoline direct injection (GDI) engine, highly pressurized gasoline is injected via a common rail fuel line and injectors that deliver fuel directly into the combustion chamber of each cylinder. In comparison, in a conventional multi-point fuel injection (MPI) engine, relatively low pressure gasoline is injected into the intake port of each cylinder. Due to high fuel pressures in a GDI system, servicing the GDI system requires special attention and handling procedures. This bulletin provides special service information and specification for the GDI fuel system components.
T3G Dealer Best2019-03-18. Service bulletin. ENGINE. Applicable vehicles with 2.0L Turbo and 2.4L engines may experience the Check Engine warning lamp illuminated with DTC P1326. 953 Dealer Best2019-03-18. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE; ENGINE. Hyundai has developed a new engine monitoring technology called a Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS). The technology uses software innovations and leverages existing engine sensors to continuously monitor for symptoms that may precede an engine failure. Watch this video to learn more. The KSDS software continuously monitors engine vibrations for unusual patterns that develop as an engine connecting rod bearing wears abnormally that could later cause engine seizure. If vibrations caused by bearing wear start to occur, the malfunction indicator lamp will blink continuously, an audible chime will sound and the vehicle will be placed in a temporary engine protection mode with reduced power and acceleration. At that time, Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P132600 will be recorded in the ECM. In addition, Hyundai will extend the warranty to 10 years and 120,000 miles (up from 100,000 miles) for original and subsequent owners of the covered vehicles for engine repairs needed because of excessive connecting rod bearing damage.
19-BE-003H2019-03-18. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some vehicles equipped with the wireless charging pad may experience a no charging condition. This bulletin provides information of how to diagnose the no charging condition.
19-01-002H-12019-03-18. Service bulletin. ENGINE. Hyundai is conducting a product improvement campaign to enhance the knock sensor software to detect abnormal engine bearing noise before potentially severe engine damage occurs. If abnormal engine bearing noise is detected, the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) will blink continuously, a chime will sound on certain vehicles, and the vehicle will be placed in Engine Protection Mode allowing the customer to drive to the nearest Hyundai dealer for diagnosis and repair. In addition, DTC P132600 will be recorded in the ECM. The vehicle can continue to be operated for a limited time in Engine Protection Mode, but it will accelerate slower and have a reduced maximum speed. Engine RPMs will be limited to approximately 1800-2000 RPM.
5NP-M7Z5K-022019-02-19. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. This bulletin provides information on how to return a Hyundai HEV/PHEV/EV/Fuel Cell Lithium Battery for proper disposal and safe environmental recycling using Hyundai?s authorized vendor Kinsbursky Brothers Inc. (KBI).
5NP-H9R6R-022019-02-19. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT. The software update installs a newly developed Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS) that detects vibrations indicating the onset of excessive connecting rod bearing wear in the engine. The KSDS is designed to alert a vehicle driver at an early stage of bearing wear before the occurrence of engine damage. If vibrations caused by bearing wear start to occur, the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) will blink continuously, an audible chime will sound, and the vehicle will be placed in Limp Home Mode. At that time, Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P132600, specific to the KSDS, will be recorded in the ECM. The vehicle can continue to be operated for a limited time in Limp Home Mode, but it will accelerate slowly and have a reduced maximum speed with RPMs limited to approximately 1800-2000 RPM. The update will be done free of charge to customers and will only involve the addition of the KSDS software update.
5NP-E8E9D-022019-02-19. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. In addition, DTC P132600 will be recorded in the ECM. The vehicle can continue to be operated for a limited time in Limp Home Mode, but it will accelerate slower and have a reduced maximum speed. Engine RPMs will be limited to approximately 1800-2000 RPM.
