Service bulletins for the 2020 Freightliner Cascadia

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

661 on file from NHTSA, as of 2026-10-19.

New Cascadia vehicles ordered with battery box data codes (282-014-BATTERY BOX[ES] MTD IN RL BOC or 29G-001-PLASTIC AUX BATT BOX MTD BTWN RLS) mounted on in rails at the back of the cab, have battery cables that are exposed to rubbing, which may result in excessive chaffing. Chaffing is observed more on the ground cable exiting the box. Typically, the battery rubs are found during the routine battery inspections. The symptoms related to excessive chafing could include low battery voltage faults, or slow or no engine crank.
SB54-3312020-07-31. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; EXTERIOR LIGHTING; VISIBILITY. Freightliner Service Bulletin for Updated ULB Control Unit for LED Headlamps. New Cascadia vehicles with light emitting diode (LED) headlamps built from January 1, 2017 through February 17, 2020 may experience intermittent disabled headlamps due to an issue with the universal light ballast (ULB). The LED headlamps can turn off if the supply voltage drops below approximately 9V. This low voltage commonly and momentarily occurs when cranking the engine on a vehicle with batteries that are not fully charged. The momentary low voltage may cause the electronic ULB control unit to malfunction. The ULB may not resume normal function until the power supply to the headlamp is disconnected.
20TS-052020-07-31. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Technical Service Letter for EPA10, GHG14, GHG17 Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Compatibility. Detroit Diesel has determined that some, Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs) are compatible in pairs and or can be mixed together within EPA10 and GHG14 Systems. For 1-BOX and Two-Box Configuration Aftertreatment Systems (ATS), this is only possible when the filters are used in accordance with Tables 1 and 2 shown below. All other DPFs, NOT mentioned below, are NOT compatible.

Freightliner Service Bulletin for Meritor Steer Axle Drum Brake Squeal. Some Cascadia and New Cascadia vehicles equipped with Meritor steer axle drum brakes with a front axle rating less than 13,300 lb (6038 kg) have experienced brake squealing noise when the service brakes are applied at lower speeds. NOTE: This is a nuisance noise issue and not a failure. The solution given in this service bulletin may fix this issue.
SB54-3332020-07-30. Service bulletin. EXTERIOR LIGHTING; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Service Bulletin for Installing a Fog Lamp Backshell. The connector that attaches to the fog lamp is exposed to water spray from the front tires. Even though the connector is sealed, water spray, in addition to wiring that may be pulled sideways, can cause water intrusion into the connector. A backshell can be added to the connector to provide shielding from direct water spray. It also provides strain relief for the wires entering the connector.
20CSA-092020-07-28. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Customer Service Announcement for DiagnosticLink Software Update Reminder. Due to various software changes and fixes, vehicles will require DiagnosticLink 8.12 to perform functional programming. Failure to use this version may cause errors, incomplete programming, and poor vehicle performance. Because of this, all DiagnosticLink 8.09 installed versions will be disabled as of Thursday, July 23, 2020.
SS10347582020-07-28. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL; VISIBILITY. Service Solution for New Cascadia Window Regulator Motor Stop Working. SB31-0442020-07-28. Service bulletin. VISIBILITY. Service Bulletin for Reflective Tape Installation. If a truck tractor is ordered without mudflaps and/or mudflap support brackets, the rear reflective tape applied to the mudflaps or mudflap brackets during production is delivered loose with the vehicle. FMVSS/CMVSS 108 S5.7.1.4.3 requires reflective tape on all truck tractors domiciled in the United States and Canada.
SB54-3302020-07-02. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Freightliner Service Bulletin for Compressor Bracket Modification to Reduce Harness Chafing. New Cascadia vehicles with Detroit HDEP engines may experience engine harness chafing at the harness support bracket that mounts on the air compressor. To avoid this issue, a new hole is drilled on the bracket to enhance the spacing with tie straps and reduce harness contact with the mounting bolt. Additional harness wrapping is added to reduce the harness chafing.

The summaries are NHTSA's. Each bulletin's page links NHTSA's copy of the manufacturer's document.
