| SSM 49695 | 2021-03-31. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some 2020-2021 F-Super Duty vehicles may exhibit an inoperative radio, no communication with the audio front control module (ACM), and/or diagnostic code (DTC) U0184 stored in the SYNC module (APIM) or instrument panel cluster (IPC). If the vehicle is in transport mode, disable transport mode and retest. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 419-10. If the concern is still present, perform a radio power reset by removing fuse F32 in the body control module (BCM) for 5 minutes. Reinstall the fuse and retest. If the concern is present, disconnect connector C240A from the ACM, reconnect, and retest. If the vehicle still exhibits the concern, refer to WSM, Section 415-00 and proceed with normal diagnostics. |
| SSM 49690 | 2021-03-31. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. For 2018-2021 EcoSport/Expedition/Navigator, 2019-2021 Ranger/Transit Connect, 2020-2021 Escape/Explorer/SuperDuty/Transit/Aviator/Corsair, 2021 Bronco Sport/F-150/Mustang/Mach-E the Workshop Manual (WSM) diagnostics may direct to replace a module on vehicles that use Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS). First, an FDRS session must be created on the vehicle prior to removing the faulted module. Once the session is started, run the Programmable Module Installation and replace the module only when instructed by FDRS. Installing a new module prior to starting a scan tool session may result in incomplete module configuration with DTCs U2100, U2101 and/or U2200. Once a session has been started, continue to follow normal WSM procedures to repair the vehicle. |
| SSM 49686 | 2021-03-31. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2020-2021 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine may experience a lack of power due to snow packing of the engine air cleaner when operating in extremely snowy conditions. Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P1548 may be present in the powertrain control module (PCM). A heavy snow environment pre-filter service kit (service part LC3Z-9K635-AA) is now available for use but is not a warrantable item. It is recommended that the service kit be removed at temperatures greater than 50F (10C) and reinstall in subsequent winter seasons in order to maintain optimal vehicle performance. The service kit instructions mention that air filter FA-2031 is required, however the heavy snow environment pre-filter service kit can be used with either engine air filter FA-1951, or FA-2031 once it is available. |
| SSM 49661 | 2021-03-31. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some 2020-2021 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L diesel engine or a 7.3L gas engine and dual alternators may require disabling or enabling the use of the second alternator. The FDRS scan tool now has an application available to allow for disabling or enabling the use of the second alternator. Start a vehicle session in FDRS using the vehicles VIN and go to the toolbox tab. The PCM will have an application called Generator Configuration. Download and run this application to enable or disable the second alternator. Next perform a Battery Monitor System (BMS) Reset. Download and run this reset and clear any DTCs. |
| SSM 49558 | 2021-03-03. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. Some 2021 F-Super Duty vehicles, with 5,000 miles (8,000 km) or less may exhibit harsh or delayed engagement/shift concerns with or without transmission diagnostic trouble codes(DTC) in the powertrain control module (PCM) or the transmission control module (TCM). Most concerns at low mileage may be addressed with the accelerated main control break-in routine. Refer to Workshop Manual, Section 307-01 Diagnosis and Testing, DTC Chart and/or Diagnosis By Symptom to identify the clutch(s) to be cycled. This routine cycles the shift solenoids and clutch control valves to remove contamination that may be sticking the valves and must be performed along with an adaptive learning drive cycle before attempting internal service. For claiming, use causal part 7A100 and applicable labor operations in Section 7 of the Service Labor Time Standards Manual. |
| SSM 49628 | 2021-03-03. Service bulletin. STEERING. Some 2017-2021 F-Super Duty vehicles may intermittently exhibit excessive steering oscillation. A new instructional video has been published in the Workshop Manual (WSM) to provide specific measurement instructions on the appropriate tools and methods to determine which steering linkage joints are exceeding lash specifications and which are operating as designed. The left side tie rod end and sector shaft arm drag link joints should not be replaced without obtaining the proper lash measurements. Refer to WSM, Section 211-03 Steering Linkage > Diagnosis and Testing > Symptom Chart. |
| SSM 49495 | 2021-02-04. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT. Some 2005-2021 F-Super Duty 4x4 vehicles operated in extreme dust, mud or tar sand conditions may exhibit accelerated 4x4 vacuum hub seal and or wheel bearing wear as a result of harsh operating conditions. A knuckle seal shield kit is now available for customer purchase. The kit is designed for severe duty and is non warrantable. The knuckle seal shield kit GC3Z-54024A38-A includes an installation instruction sheet |
| SSM 49485 | 2021-02-04. Service bulletin. FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE. Some 2021 E-Series/F-Super Duty/F-650/F-750 vehicles equipped with a 6.2L or 7.3L gasoline engine may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0457 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to a loose fuel filler cap. The fuel filler cap design changed for 2021 to require one full turn to properly tighten. Advise the customer of the design change. For further diagnostics, refer to the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual, pinpoint test HX. |
| SSM 49483 | 2021-02-04. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. Some 2017-2021 F-Super Duty and 2016-2021 F650-750 with 6.7L diesel engines, 2015-2019 Transit with 3.2L diesel engines and 2018-2021 F-150 with 3.0L diesel engines may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P206C in the powertrain control module (PCM). Review of repair data supports that P206C is often the result of incorrect diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) concentration. Per Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Pinpoint Test (PPT) RJ, a DEF concentration reading below 28% will set P206C and cause vehicle derate. If low concentration is suspected, drain fluid and replace with known good DEF before replacing any parts. Low concentration of DEF is not a warrantable condition. |
| SSM 49446 | 2021-02-04. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. Some 2021 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.2L or 7.3L engine, F-150 vehicles equipped with a 3.3L or 5.0L engine, and Explorer/Police Interceptor Utility vehicles equipped with a 3.3L engine may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0106 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM) while in transport mode, especially in higher altitudes. To correct the condition, clear the DTCs and deactivate transport mode. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 419-10 > General Procedures. Before starting the engine in the procedure, cycle the ignition to OFF, cycle the ignition to ON, wait ten seconds, cycle the ignition to OFF, wait ten seconds, then start the engine. If the condition remains, refer to the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Manual for diagnostics. |
| SSM 49441 | 2021-02-04. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. Some 2020-2021 Super Duty vehicles equipped with an 10R140 automatic transmission may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) and/or powertrain malfunction (wrench) indicator lamp with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0715, P0716, P0717, P0718, P07BF and/or P07C0 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). If any of these DTCs are set, focus diagnostics on the turbine shaft speed sensor (TSS) and/or TSS circuits. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 307-01. Replacement of the ISSA or ISSB sensor will not correct this condition. |
| SSM 49430 | 2021-02-04. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. 2011-2021 F-Super Duty and 2016-2021 F-650/F-750 vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine may exhibit a high/elevated idle condition. During prolonged idle time, vehicles may experience this high/elevated idle to reduce buildup of unburned hydrocarbons from the SCR system. The powertrain control module (PCM) estimates hydrocarbon levels in the SCR and may increase idle speed to remove them. Idle speed will be increased to 1000 revolutions per minute (rpms) for ambient temperatures near 26C (80F) and may increase to as high as 1200 rpms at -40 C (-40F). These elevated idle periods can last from 20-40 minutes, depending on ambient temperatures. During power take off (PTO) use and already using idle set point control, the elevated speed is disabled. It is required that the operator monitor the vehicle and adhere to the Exhaust Filter warning messages. |
| SSM 49439 | 2021-02-04. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN; EQUIPMENT; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY. Some 2020-2021 F-Super Duty vehicles with 6.7L and 10R140 powertrain may exhibit an illuminated powertrain malfunction indicator (wrench) lamp with only DTC P07F6 stored in the transmission control module (TCM). The vehicle may also exhibit harsh engagements, poor shift quality and/or loss of 9th gear as a result of the DTC being set. If no additional DTCs or symptoms are present, clear keep alive memory and transmission adaptive tables with the appropriate Ford diagnostic scan tool, and perform an adaptive learning drive cycle. Transmission replacement is not necessary. Inform customers that a further improved calibration will be available in early March 2021. Let the customer know they can continue to drive the vehicle after performing this SSM, and schedule a service appointment for early March 2021. Monitor OASIS for updates. |
