PIP5282A2017-05-18. Service bulletin. ENGINE. THIS PRELIMINARY INFORMATION COMMUNICATION ADVISES THE TECHNICIAN ABOUT THE CALCULATION AND OPERATION OF THE ENGINE OIL LIFE MONITOR. THE MONITOR CALCULATES THE PERCENT OF OIL LIFE REMAINING, BASED ON 3 PATHWAYS. THE FIRST PATHWAY FOR OIL LIFE CALCULATION IS ENGINE REVOLUTIONS. THE SECOND PATHWAY FOR OIL LIFE CALCULATION IS THE MILEAGE FORM THE LAST REST FOR ALL GENERAL MOTORS POWERTRAINS EXCEPT THE VOLT. THE THIRD PATHWAY FOR OIL LIFE CALCULATION IS THE AMOUNT OF TIME THE OIL IS IN THE ENGINE. THE VOLT USES A 2 YEAR TIMER INSTEAD OF 1 YEAR. IT ALSO USES THE ENGINE REVOLUTION COUNTER. IT DOES NOT USE THE MILEAGE PATHWAY TO COUNT DOWN.
PIP5029G2017-05-16. Service bulletin. ENGINE. THIS PRELIMINARY INFORMATION COMMUNICATION PROVIDES INFORMATION TO THE TECHNICIAN ABOUT VEHICLES THAT HAVE A MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP ON OR ENGINE MISFIRE, ROUGH IDLE, EXTENDED CRANK, OR CRANK NO START IN SOME CASES. PIP5251A2017-03-15. Service bulletin. ENGINE. THIS PRELIMINARY INFORMATION COMMUNICATION PROVIDES INFORMATION TO THE TECHNICIAN ABOUT VEHICLES THAT MAY HAVE A MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP ON. TECHNICIAN MAY FIND A DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE P0324 SET AS A CURRENT OR HISTORY. ALSO A RATTLE OR SPARK KNOCK TYPE NOISE MAY ALSO BE HEARD WHILE DRIVING. TECHNICIAN WILL NEED TO LET THE VEHICLE COLD SOAK OVERNIGHT. THEN CLEAR THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IN THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE. THEN USE GLOBAL DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM 2 TO MONITOR THE TOTAL KNOCK RETARD PARAMETER. LET THE VEHICLE RUN AT IDLE FOR TEN SECONDS WITH THE PARK BRAKE TURNED ON. HOLD THE BRAKE DOWN AND PLACE THE VEHICLE IN “DRIVE” FOR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION OR DRIVE GEAR FOR MANUAL GEAR BOX THEN BRING THE ENGINE BETWEEN 1800 AND 2000 RPM FOR 10 SECONDS THEN RETURN TO IDLE FOR 5 SECOND. REPEAT THIS CYCLE 7 TIMES. IF THE READINGS DURING THE RAISED RPM TESTING WERE NOT CONTINUOUSLY ABOVE 6.0 DEGREES FOR MORE THAN 5 SECONDS, NO FURTHER ACTION IS REQUIRED WITHIN THE SCOPE OF THIS BULLETIN. IF THE READINGS DURING THE RAISED RPM TESTING WERE CONTINUOUSLY ABOVE 6.0 DEGREES FOR MORE THAN 5 SECONDS, THE VEHICLE REQUIRES REPAIR. TECHNICIAN WILL NEED TO VERIFY THE ENGINE OIL LEVEL IS CORRECT. AFTER INSURING THE ENGINE OIL LEVEL IS CORRECT ALLOW THE ENGINE TO IDLE FOR ONE HOUR. EVERY 15 MINUTES INCREASE THE ENGINE RPMS TO 2000 AND HOLD FOR 5 MINUTES. OR DRIVE THE VEHICLE FOR 25 TO 30 MILES. ALLOW THE ENGINE TO COLD SOAK OVERNIGHT AND THEN REPEAT THE INSPECTION PROCEDURE. THEN REVIEW THE GLOBAL DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM 2 SESSION LOG TOTAL KNOCK RETARD PARAMETER. TECHNICIAN WILL NEED TO GENERAL MOTORS TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE CENTER FOR FURTHER ASSISTANCE.
141102017-03-03. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL. 14110 - EMISSIONS RECALL. GENERAL MOTORS HAS DECIDED TO CONDUCT A VOLUNTARY EMISSION RECALL INVOLVING CERTAIN VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 1.2L ENGINE (RPO LL0). THESE VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN BUILT WITH A POSITIVE CRANKCASE VENTILATION (PCV) VALVE THAT MAY WEAR PREMATURELY. IF THIS OCCURS, IT MAY CAUSE EXCESSIVE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION, WHICH MAY EVENTUALLY FOUL A SPARK PLUG CAUSING THE ILLUMINATION OF THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP (MIL), ROUGH ENGINE OPERATION, AND IF UNCORRECTED, CAUSE ENGINE DAMAGE AND LACK OF ENGINE POWER. DEALERS ARE TO REPLACE THE PCV VALVE. FOR VEHICLES THAT ARE NOT IN DEALER INVENTORY, DEALERS SHOULD ALSO CLEAN THE THROTTLE BODY, CLEAN THE THROTTLE PLATE, AND RELEARN THE IDLE. IF THE MIL IS ILLUMINATED/FLASHING, IT MAY ALSO BE NECESSARY TO REPLACE THE #4 SPARK PLUG.
