If debris is found, the main and rod bearings should be inspected before engine replacement is considered.
PIT5245C2018-02-21. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; COMMUNICATION. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that the blower motor may be noisy or vibrate when running. This concern will only occur when the temperatures is below 32 degrees Fahrenheit and if the blower motor is removed while still cold, ice may be found on the blower motor cage. This concern could be caused by water leaking or snow ingestion into the Heater-Vent-Air Conditioning case. Technician is to perform normal water testing diagnostics while the Heater-Vent-Air Conditioning is running, looking for water leaking past the plenum cover. If water is leaking past the cover remove the cover and install a 12x12 snow resistant screen to the fresh air intake. Reseal and install the plenum cover cap using Kent air dry sealer or equivalent.
PIP5130J2018-02-21. Service bulletin. ENGINE. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician how to diagnose and repair a vehicle with an engine that runs with an intermittent crank no start with a Diagnostic Trouble Code P0011 or P00C6 current or history. The Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve may be sticking or binding causing the valve timing to be retarded. Dealer will need to cycle the Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve by energizing it using Global Diagnostic System 2.
PIP53302018-01-22. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that have a coolant loss and/or coolant odor after driving the vehicle. Technician will need to test the cooling system looking for leaks at the outer head bolts. If coolant is found replace the head the concern is present on.
PIP53232018-01-22. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles with misfires or roughness on cold start up. Technician may find a Diagnostic Trouble Code P0300 stored. Technician will add coolant dye to the system, run engine through warm up, pressurize the cooling system on a cold soak engine and inspect the suspect cylinder with a bore scope for coolant dye evidence. If coolant is found in the cylinder do not replace the cylinder head because that will not repair this concern. Dealer will need to contact General Motors Product Quality Center for engine replacement.
PIP4578B2018-01-16. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. This PI was superseded to update model years and add information concerning idle surge, reduced engine power mode, and/or DTCs P0068, P0121, P1516, P2101, P2119, and/or P2176 that may be experienced on high mileage vehicles. Please discard PIP4578.

The concern is present when coasting at low speeds of less than 15 miles per hour and then aggressively applying the throttle, or after making a hard stop followed by an aggressive throttle. This is considered normal operation of the vehicle the throttle is delayed and opened slowly up to .7 seconds to help minimize driveline lash and clunking or will have approximately .5 seconds of zero torque to allow the transmission to shift to first gear.
PIP5137B2017-12-22. Service bulletin. ENGINE; POWER TRAIN. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that may have a rough idle and/or a vibration at idle in gear. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on the steps need to diagnose and repair vehicles that may have stalling shudder and/or hard shifting into 1st gear or reverse vibration on launch (with excessive crankshaft end play). Technician will test to determine if the crank shaft end play is within specification 0.0015–0.0086 inch. If end play is found to be out of specification, remove engine and inspect for possible crankshaft thrust bearing and/or crankshaft for wear. Inspect thrust bearing for wear on one side and crankshaft on that “mating” surface. If the thrust bearing has three vertical channels worn off replace connecting rod bearings, main bearings, thrust bearing and crankshaft. If working on a Corvette the oil tank with lines and oil cooler are both required to be replaced if equipped
GCUS-9-8982017-11-17. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM. 15457 - Special Coverage. Some 2010-2015 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vehicles and 2011-2015 Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD vehicles that are equipped with 6.6L Duramax Diesel engines (RPO LML or LGH) may contain a leak in the seal between the engine-exhaust down pipe and the engine-exhaust pipe. If a leak is present, the intermittent regeneration of the diesel-particulate filter may cause small amounts of diesel fuel to leak from the vehicle. It may also cause diesel-fuel vapor and engine exhaust to enter the passenger cabin. Dealers are to inspect the turbocharger exhaust pipe and the downpipe connection and implement service kit if necessary.
