Service bulletins for the 2014 Cadillac ATS
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

| PIP4959E | 2017-08-15. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:OTHER:OWNERS/SERVICE/OTHER MANUAL; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician with information regarding high misfire rates always on #1 cylinder. A customer may complain of misfires or roughness on cold start up with a P0300 diagnostic trouble code. Technician is to add coolant dye to the system and run the engine through warm up to circulate the dye. Pressurize the cooling system after a cold soak and inspect the cylinder with a bore scope for coolant dye. Dye is used to identify coolant over residual fuel being that might be left in the cylinder. The technician is not to replace the cylinder head as it will not correct this concern. In some cases it is necessary to remove the head for inspection. Do not replace the engine for small surface pock marks or a pitting appearance this is normal and do not connect to coolant passages. Usually if porosity is present there will be a break in the carbon ring. Only replace the engine if true porosity is found. Technician is to call Product Quality Center with the latest version of bulletin 02-07-30-029 if porosity is found and engine replacement is required. |
| PIP5282 | 2017-08-15. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. This Preliminary Information communication advises the technician about the calculation and operation of the engine oil life monitor. The monitor calculates the percent of oil life remaining, based on 3 pathways. The first pathway for oil life calculation is engine revolutions. The second pathway for oil life calculation is the mileage form the last rest for all General Motors powertrains except the Volt. The third pathway for oil life calculation is the amount of time the oil is in the engine. The Volt uses a 2 year timer instead of 1 year. It also uses the engine revolution counter. It does not use the mileage pathway to count down. |
| PIP5264 | 2017-08-15. Service bulletin. ENGINE; EQUIPMENT:OTHER:OWNERS/SERVICE/OTHER MANUAL. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on the step to diagnose and repair vehicles that may have engine misfire and check engine light with any or all cylinder misfires only on deceleration. Technician will need to remove the accessory belts and drive or brake stall at signature RPM. If the concern is gone inspect for debris in the belt or pulleys causing a jump and false misfires. Also lift the engine to unload the engine mounts and test again. If concern is gone then inspect for a ground out concern with the mounts causing false misfires. |
| PIP5257 | 2017-08-15. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on the steps to diagnose and repair vehicles that may have oil mixed in with the engine coolant. Technician will need to inspect the oil cooler if equipped for possible leaking into the cooling system through the radiator. If no issue found replace the engine as well as all rubber coolant hoses. |

| PIP5331B | 2017-08-15. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician that some vehicles may have rattle, tick, or knock type noise. If there are any drivability concerns they should be addressed prior to the following diagnostic progression. Technician will take a sound file or video with sound of the noise prior to dis-assembly. Technician may find this noise hard to isolate to one area in the engine. There are four different steps to take to diagnosis the concern. Technician will perform injector diagnosis to ensure there are no leaking injectors causing a noise due to excessive fuel in any one cylinder. Replace any out of specification injectors the reevaluate for the noise. Technician will remove the intake manifold and visually inspect for excessive carbon on the intake valve stems and top of the valve causing noise. If carbon is present then follow the latest version of PIP5029 to clean the valves or replace heads as needed. Technician will remove the cam cover of the affected bank (both if needed) to inspect for soft or spongy stationary hydraulic lash adjusters. Push down on the rocker end at the stationary hydraulic lash adjusters to test for soft or spongy. If soft or spongy stationary hydraulic lash adjusters are found, carefully remove the affected head and inspect the oil passage below the head gasket for debris. If debris is found, inspect the camshaft caps for wear or discoloration due to lack of oil. During inspection if wear or discoloration is found then replace the cylinder head assembly with camshafts. If there is no wear or discoloration, clean the oil passages and replace the head gasket. Technician will use chassis ears or a stethoscope; listen to the right and left side of the engine. Once the noise is isolated or if unable to isolate, remove the piston and rod assemblies from the affected bank(s) to inspect for either; a loose rod bushing in the rod, or a loose wrist pin in the bushing. If this is found, replacing the piston an |
| PIP5232C | 2017-08-15. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:CATALYTIC CONVERTOR. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about gasoline powered cars, mid-size trucks, light duty trucks, and heavy duty trucks with premature catalytic converter failures.
