Service bulletins for the 2020 BMW X6

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

301 on file from NHTSA, as of 2026-10-19.

DELIVERY STOP - INSPECT NUTS ON CATALYTIC CONVERTER: BMW AG has issued a Delivery Stop (effective June 23, 2020) on certain Model Year 2020 BMW vehicles that were produced between March 10, 2020 and June 1, 2020. Do not deliver to a customer, a New, Certified Pre-Owned or Used vehicle subject to a Delivery Stop, until the vehicle is repaired. Do not use or sell replacement equipment/parts subject to a Delivery Stop. The nuts holding the catalytic converter to a bracket in the engine compartment may become loose. Over time, this may lead to damage to the exhaust system. The nuts on the catalytic converter bracket in the engine compartment have been incorrectly torqued (19 Nm instead of 28 Nm).
B1706172020-08-31. Service bulletin. ENGINE; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. COOLANT LEAK FROM LOW TEMPERATURE COOLING CIRCUIT (N63R): Coolant leaking from the engine compartment. Traces of coolant leaking from the expansion tank of the low temperature cooling system. Aluminum corrosion in the charge air intercoolers, or in the radiator for the low temperature cooling is causing an unfavorable chemical reaction to the coolant.
B1701202020-06-15. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. SERVICE ACTION - ADD SILICONE BOOSTER TO LOW TEMP COOLING SYSTEM: The coolant in the low temperature cooling system may not have sufficient coolant corrosion protection.
B1101202020-06-15. Service bulletin. ENGINE. B58C AND B58M ENGINES ENGINE OIL FILTER INSERT IS DIFFICULT TO REMOVE - REMOVAL: On rare occasions during an engine oil service the BMW Original (Genuine) engine oil filter insert is either difficult to remove or breaks apart in the oil filter housing. The engine oil filter is broken. The paper is torn and the lower plastic section is stuck in the engine oil filter housing.
B6303202020-04-20. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; AIR BAGS. Headlight Malfunction Check Control Message: Intermittently a check control message may be present stating "Adaptive headlight failure" (CC message 127) or "Headlight range control failure" (CC message 100). In conjunction one of the following faults codes MUST be stored for this bulletin to apply: 805A0D control unit: Headlight range control stepper motor driver failure (left frontal light module) 805A0E control unit: Adaptive Headlights stepper motor driver failure (left frontal light module) 805B8D control unit: Headlight range control stepper motor driver failure (left frontal light module) 805A0E control unit: Adaptive Headlights stepper motor driver failure (right frontal light module) This only affects vehicles with a current I-level below S18A-20-03-524. Software error in the FLM02 (Frontal light electronics module-Right or left).
B1702202020-04-20. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. B1701202020-02-18. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. SERVICE ACTION: ADD SILICONE BOOSTER TO LOW TEMP COOLING SYSTEM: The coolant in the low temperature cooling system may not have sufficient coolant corrosion protection. AFFECTED VEHICLES Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as "Open" when checked either in AIR the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with ISPA NEXT.
B1204192020-02-18. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. DME FAULT MEMORY ENTRY FOR THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR: This Service Information Bulletin (Revision 1) replaces SI B12 04 19 dated February 2019. Technicians may notice this fault logged during a diagnostic session: Fault code: Control module: Fault Text: 160021 DME Crankshaft sensor: general loss of synchronism Environmental conditions are vehicle speed 0 (stationary) and engine speed less than 1500 rpm. There is no customer-facing symptom nor related check control message displayed. Phantom/pseudo fault due to unsuitable DME software. Background: After parking the vehicle and turning off the engine both DME control units go into sleep mode at different times. The DME of cylinder bank 2 ("secondary") goes into sleep mode first The DME of cylinder bank 1 ("primary") is still awake and can experience a reduction in signal voltage for the crankshaft sensor signal This signal change can mistakenly be evaluated as a skipped crankshaft sensor cog by the DME. If the engine is started while the primary DME is still awake this causes a brief loss of synchronization with the secondary DME. Fault 160021 is logged after three (3) consecutive engine starts with this momentary loss of synchronization. Note: Starting the engine after the primary DME has also gone into sleep mode will avoid the loss of synchronization.
B1112192020-02-18. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP IS ILLUMINATED WITH A CRANKSHAFT ADAPTION FAULT: When diagnosing an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) and/or a different issue the following faults may also be stored in the Digital Motor Electronics (DME). Fault code Control module Fault code text 213A2B DME Increment wheel adaption faulty This situation is not associated with any drivability complaints and only affects vehicles built with a Factory I-level of 19-07-500 and later. An unfavorable DME diagnostic calibration may cause the fault code to be stored. In most circumstances this will cause the MIL to be illuminated.
B1228192019-12-16. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THE MIL MAY BE ILLUMINATED BY ERRONEOUS VALVETRONIC FAULTS. One of the following faults may be stored in the digital motor electronics (DME) either as part of diagnosing a different issue; and-or an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL).
B1114192019-12-16. Service bulletin. ENGINE. Delivery Stop on certain Model Year 2019 and 2020 BMW vehicles that were produced between July 20 2018 and November 2 2019. There is a possibility of contamination in the engine.

The summaries are NHTSA's. Each bulletin's page links NHTSA's copy of the manufacturer's document.
