Service bulletins for the 2017 BMW X1

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

189 on file from NHTSA, as of 2026-10-19.

B1118162018-11-05. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. "THERMOSTAT FAULTS (B-ENGINES). The Service Engine Soon light is on. A Check Control message for ""Engine overheated"" and or ""Exercise caution!"" may also display. The following fault codes may be stored in the DME: 1D2401 - Characteristic map thermostat, actuation: Short circuit to B+ 1D2402 - Characteristic map thermostat, actuation: Short circuit to ground 1D2404 - Characteristic map thermostat, actuation: Line disconnection During diagnosis the coolant may be found to be discolored. Insulation on the wiring for the map activation thermostat (heating element) may be damaged. Exposed wiring may allow coolant to enter the harness. This may cause damage to the heating element."
B1122162018-11-05. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. ?"ENGINE OIL PRESSURE" ON LOW MILEAGE CARS. Check Control Message (CCM-212) states: "Engine Oil Pressure. Stop Carefully" The following codes may be stored in the DME fault memory" 1C2002 - Engine oil pump, pressure too low 1FB801 - CCM (ID212) - Oil pressure Also, the vehicle's mileage is very low (below 60 miles), the fault frequency shows only "one" occurrence; faults are not currently present and cannot be reproduced. CAUSE Unfavorable DME software application."
B1107172018-11-05. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. ?FAULT 118002 - MIXTURE TOO RICH SETS DURING WINTER WITH COLD AMBIENT TEMPERATURES . The Service Engine Soon (MIL) light is on with the following fault stored in the DME. Fault: 118002 - Mixture too rich In the situation being described, the fault is primarily stored during the cold winter months along with the use of winter fuel. Various other causes for a rich mixture fault are possible and should not be overlooked. CAUSE DME software diagnostic is too sensitive This situation is most likely to occur if the driving profile is one of frequent cold engine starts and/or primarily short distance trips (idle / low load operation) where full engine operating temperature is not reached. Due to the lower engine oil temperatures crankcase vapors that contain a higher fuel content are not completely drawn off via the crankcase ventilation system. A false DME adaptation routine could then lead to this fault being set.
B1203172018-11-05. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; POWER TRAIN. ?MIL IS ON WITH FAULT CF0486 STORED IN THE EGS MODULE . The Service Engine Soon (MIL) light is on. The following fault is stored in the AISIN EGS module: CF0486: EGS,PT-CAN2: Line fault/electrical fault It is possible the following Check Control messages could be displayed: Engine fault! Power loss (CCM ID 29) Drive faulty! (CCM ID 419) - The transmission is in the emergency program and the engine is running with reduced power. This fault occurs sporadically when the ignition is turned on or the engine started. Unfavorable DME software Only vehicles at the following I-levels are affected: F056-16-03-50x or F056-16-07-50x
B6110182018-10-09. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. THE DISPLAY GOES BLACK, VEHICLE DOESNT START AGAIN AFTER SWITCHING THE ENGINE OFF.: On board computer and navigation system goes black or resets.
B1204182018-10-09. Service bulletin. ENGINE; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. BUZZING NOISE FROM VALVETRONIC MOTOR BEFORE OR AFTER ENGINE OPERATION: Buzzing noise may be heard from the Valvetronic motor when the vehicle is unlocked, before the engine is started, or after the engine is turned off.
