Service bulletins for the 2017 BMW R nineT

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

INFORMATION This bulletin outlines a customer satisfaction measure that has been designed exclusively for the BMW vehicles listed above. It involves the replacement of the 12-volt battery as a preventive maintenance measure. This 12-volt battery replacement measure is: Effective for repairs dated on or after January 1, 2015. Applicable to vehicles that are still covered by the BMW Maintenance Program. This program is valid for 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first. The calculation is based on the current date of repair. It is "applicable" when the 12volt battery was not replaced within the last 12 months. You can then perform the battery replacement as outlined below. Please check the warranty claim history for the specific vehicle in the DCSnet Warranty Vehicle Inquiry to confirm the battery was not already replaced within the previous 12 months."
B6122172018-11-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. DIAGNOSTIC COMMUNICATION WITH FLEXRAY CONTROL MODULES NOT POSSIBLE. There are no customer complaints associated with this issue. The following control modules do not respond when diagnosing the vehicle with ISTA: Advanced Crash and Safety Management (ACSM) Digital Motor Electronics (DME) Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) Electric Active Roll Stabilization, Rear (EARSH) Electric Active Roll Stabilization, Front EARSV) Electrical Machine Electronics (EME) Electromechanical Power Steering (EPS) Integral Active Steering (HSR) Optional Equipment System (SAS) Vertical Dynamics Platform (VDP) Transfer Box (VTG) CAUSE Body Domain Controller (BDC) diagnostic communication error.
B6118172018-11-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. "SME FAULT CODE 21F02A. Upon starting the vehicle, the following CC message is displayed to the customer: "Powertrain malfunction!" (CCM-ID: 633) In addition, one or several of the following CC message(s) may be displayed: "Charging not possible" (CCM-ID: 804), "Hybrid system malfunctioning!" (CCM-ID: 585), "Drive. No restart" (CCM-ID: 586) or "Engine fault! Power loss" (CCM-ID: 29). Possible hardware defect of the safety box."
B3404172018-11-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. "?DSC WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED AFTER TRANSPORT MODE DEACTIVATION. After vehicle start-up from transport mode, the DSC warning lamp flashes. CC message "driving stabilization restricted" is displayed in the CID. The following faults are entered in the fault memory: 0x482394 EPS control unit: Initialization fault steering angle, loss of multi-turn value. 0x48078B DSC control unit: Initialization fault EPS, adjustment required. The order of transport mode deactivation and steering angle sensor initialization reversed. While in transport mode, the steering angle sensor loses calibration on every terminal change. During the QCI service, transport mode deactivation is supposed to occur prior to steering angle sensor initialization. When this is reversed, calibration is lost."
B6603172018-11-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. AUTOMATIC PARK DISTANCE CONTROL ACTIVATES TOO LATE . Automatic Park Distance Control (aPDC) signal is being activated when vehicle is uncomfortably close to obstructions at the corner of the vehicle. B6601172018-11-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. DISPLAY KEY: SERVICE INTERVAL DISPLAY CHANGES . INFORMATION Replacing Parts or programming the vehicle will not rectify the situation. The display key information was modified, as shown in the graphics below, to eliminate any confusion that may have been caused by inconsistent display of CBS maintenance intervals. The remaining CBS distance and date are now only displayed in the vehicle.
B6103172018-11-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. "CHANGE TO PHEV HV BATTERY CELL MODULES. INFORMATION There has been a change to all Generation 3 PHEV high-voltage (HV) battery cell modules. The number of temperatures sensors on the cell modules has decreased from 4 sensors to 3 sensors. This change has to be taken into account when replacing a component within the HV battery that requires the charging or discharging of a cell module with the Deutronic DBL1200HV-60 cell module charger. When connecting the cell module to the charger the number of temperature sensors (NTC's) will need to be changed to 3 for the charger to charge the module correctly. Refer to the DBL1200HV-60 manual for more information (Attached). To verify how many temperature sensors are on the cell module use the ""Diagnosis"" function of the DBL1200HV-60 cell module charger. The example to the right shows 3 temperature sensors. The message ""ZKS not connected"" will be displayed if the incorrect amount of temperature sensors (NTC's) is selected."
