1211142018-11-13. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Customer Care Package: Software Update. Through our quality control processes and customers' feedback, BMW has become aware of some intermittent, software-related deficiencies of Model Year 2014 BMW i3 vehicles. Specifically: * On i3 REx vehicles, the Check Engine Light (CEL) may be illuminated without relevant faults stored. The CEL is not accompanied by any drivability, functionality, or emissions-related problems. * On i3 BEV vehicles, the A/C system stops cooling the interior with the fault code 801130 (Heat Pump - general malfunction) stored in the IHKA module. CAUSE Software error SOLUTION To enhance i3 driving experiences and reduce the number of customer complaints, BMW has decided to launch a preventive action called the "Customer Care Package: Software Update" to reprogram all affected vehicles in customers' possession and prior to delivery. All affected vehicles will be reprogrammed with the software patch (target integration I001-03-506) via IRAP programming sessions. It is mandatory that prior to the IRAP programming, the vehicle's integration level be checked and reprogrammed with the latest version of ISTA/P (2.52.5) to the level I001-03-505, if required. Starting Monday, July 7, the Customer Relations department will be calling BMW i3 drivers of affected vehicles, advising them to schedule an appointment with their authorized BMW i3 center (copy of the "Customer Care Software Package: Q & A" is attached). Also, make sure that all i3 vehicles in your inventory receive the benefits of the Customer Care Software Update, prior to delivery.

B6102152018-11-13. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Clicking Noise from Off-board Charger. While the vehicle is charging, the off-board charger is clicking. The clicking noise comes from the relays inside the charger cycling off and on. This condition most commonly occurs when the vehicle is fully charged; it is plugged into the charger; and then pre-conditioning is activated via the BMW iRemote app. The cycling of the relays can last from a few seconds to several minutes. Despite this cycling, the vehicle will continue to charge and pre-condition normally. While this condition can affect any off-board charger brand (Level 1 or 2), the Clipper Creek HCSSeries (Level 2/240V) charger tends to be more susceptible. CAUSE This situation is caused by an EME software issue that allows, depending on the electrical load demand from the vehicle, the charging to cycle on and off excessively.

B6135142018-11-13. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. "General Electrical Systems Technical Service This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI B61 35 14 dated December 2014. designates changes to this revision SUBJECT Displayed Range Is Lower After Programming. After the vehicle is programmed with ISTA/P 3.53.3 (i-level I001-14-07-503), the displayed vehicle range in the instrument cluster is lower than prior to the software update. The actual range that the vehicle is capable of achieving on a full charge has not changed. The difference between the displayed range and actual range is always conservative, yet this difference varies based on driving profile. When driving primarily at highway speeds, the difference between displayed and actual range is within a few percent of each other. When driving primarily with a low speed/city profile, the gap may widen to as much as 20% or more. Software improvements have been made to the range algorithm to improve its accuracy in all driving scenarios. These updates are available with ISTA/P 3.55.0 (I-level I001-15-03-501). In addition, the following enhancements are integrated into this new I-level: ? The state of charge (SOC) percentage is visible in the upper left corner of the Kombi. It has been added to the board computer display in order for the customer to better manage the vehicle range. ? During vehicle charging with the doors locked, the charge port is also locked. However, now when charging commences, the charge port will be unlocked to allow for hospitality charging (charger sharing). ? REx only - if the SOC reaches 2.0% with the REx running, the message ""Low Battery. Power Reduction Possible."" will appear in the Kombi. In addition to the range display, the customer may notice that the vehicle's range has decreased as outside temperatures have gotten colder. This is most noticeable in extreme cold climates, and when preconditioning is not used. This situation does not indicate a problem and is independent of the range display algorithm. CAUSE The algorithm
B6105152018-11-13. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:12V/24V/48V BATTERY. 12-volt Battery Terminal Adapter Slightly Loose. The 12-volt battery adapter appears to be slightly loose. The cable connection on the positive or negative terminal can be slightly moved or turned. It is normal for vehicles to have slight play in the adapter for battery connections. Vehicles produced prior to April 3, 2014 may have excessive play because the mounting screw is not microencapsulated and can loosen further.
B1212152018-11-13. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Service Engine Soon (MIL): EME FC CF948C. The Service Engine Soon light (MIL) is intermittently illuminated in the instrument cluster (Kombi). This does not affect drivability, and no symptoms are apparent to the customer. CAUSE The following fault code is stored in the fault memory of the Electric Machine Electronics (EME): ? CF948C - Message (actual wheel speed, 0x254) missing, receiver EME, transmitter DSC This fault is stored when the DSC control unit intermittently does not send a particular wheel speed message at the time the EME is expecting to receive it.

When starting the vehicle after fully charging it over a period of several hours, a 12V battery discharge Check Control Message (CCM 229) is present. The CCM is displayed immediately after start-up, and goes away after driving a short distance. Generally, no drivability concerns are present but in isolated cases, a complete discharge of the 12V battery is possible. In this situation, the vehicle cannot be started until the 12V battery is charged. Only vehicles with an I-level of between I001-14-07-500 and I001-14-11-502 are affected. Fault code 8040B9: De-activation of terminal 30B: Top startability limit reached, is stored in the BDC. CCM 229 is shown when running the ISTA Service Function to read out check control messages. This Service Function can be run using the following path: Service Function/06_Vehicle information/Check Control messages. CAUSE A software error in the REME was introduced with I-level I001-14-07-500.
