BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain model year 2013-2016 BMW G650GS motorcycles manufactured March 8, 2013, to October 12, 2015, and 2013-2015 BMW G650GS Sertao motorcycles manufactured March 8, 2013, to May 23, 2014. The affected motorcycles may stall during operation due to an engine control unit (ECU) software issue. Built 2013-03-08 to 2015-10-12. |

| 2016478 | 2016-09-29. Engine. On certain motorcycles, the engine control unit software which regulates the idle speed may have been incorrectly programmed. As a result, if the clutch lever is engaged, the throttle is closed and the engine is operating at idle, the engine may stall. An engine stall could lead to a loss of stability of the motorcycle, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will update the engine control unit software. Note: This recall supersedes recall 2015-378. Motorcycles repaired under the previous recall will require re-inspection and repair. |
