Service bulletins for the 2016 Bentley Continental
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

| 2036267/1 | 2020-03-03. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. HVAC Potential spurious Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Customer statement / workshop findings: Customer will not be aware of this code / Workshop may discover this code whilst running a Diagnostic Trouble Code log as part of other investigations on the car Technical background: At low ambient temperatures a spurious fault code may be logged by the HVAC control module in reference to the air quality sensor. The code is stored without being accompanied by any functional failure in the system Measure: The following may be seen during routine interrogation of vehicle systems do not take any investigative action in response to the following fault code unless there is an actual fault evident in the system or a fault in the system has been reported by the owner. |
| 2029216/2 | 2020-03-03. Service bulletin. STRUCTURE. New Continental Convertible side window/s not fully closed Customer statement / workshop findings: With the engine not running, the hood can be raised from the stowage position and closed with no issues using the desired roof and window close functions (for example the roof control switch or keyless exit). However, when the side glass windows start to close a combination of one or more of the side windows do not fully close. During the close operation the side window/s appear to be closing as expected but as the glass gains contact with the hood and adjoining seals the window/s lower away from the contact sealing points resulting in the side window/s dropping partially down. The customer may also experience the same symptoms regarding the side windows not fully closing even when the hood has not been cycled, the windows when raised appear to be closing as expected, however when the contact sealing points are reached the side window/s drop partially down. Technical background: There are multiple ways the roof and windows can be closed with the engine not running, irrespective of which way has been selected by the operative, the expectation is that once the roof has fully closed the side windows should also fully close in one continuous motion. Should the symptoms be as described within the Customer statement section of this TPI the initial reaction may be to adjust the window settings, this is not necessary initially and at this point should not be carried out, it is imperative that the initial checks within the Measure section of this TPI are followed to determine the exact cause and appropriate next steps. |

| 2028808/3 | 2020-01-17. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Service info: Engine oil Specific oil type and oil consumption dealer reference Customer statement / workshop findings: Engine oil level requires top up between services Technical background: The introduction of the Bentley Continental GT V8 brings a new engine to the Bentley family. This all new 4.0 litre V8 twin turbo joins the 6.0 litre W12 in the Continental range with the 6.75 litre V8 reserved for the Mulsanne. Each of these three engines had individual design criteria producing unique driving characteristics as a result each have individual lubrication requirements and oil consumption statistics. With the 4.0 litre V8 comes a new oil to Bentley - this new engine lubricant must only be used in the 4.0 litre V8. The use of the correct oil for each engine is critical to its continued performance, reliability and ultimately warranty. Therefor the workshop manual should always be the first point of reference ensuring the correct lubricant is used for each specific model year and engine type |

| 2052785/4 | 2020-01-09. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC. Condition: Customer statement: Noise complaint from the braking system. Workshop findings: The noise can be reproduced and clearly assigned to the braking system. Technical Background Brake noises can be attributed to many causes. Eight of the most common causes are: 1. Brake discs or pads are close to their wear limit. 2. New brake pads and/or discs have not been properly bedded in after installation. 3. Aftermarket pads or discs are installed. 4. There is debris such as small stones, grit, road salt or sand between the brake disc and pad. 5. Discs are covered in rust. Rust can form when the vehicle has been stationary for long periods of time (Figure 1). 6. Discs have a groove in them (Figure 2) 7. There is chemical contamination on the braking surface of the disc due to a wheel or tyre cleaner being sprayed directly onto the disc (Figure 3). 8. There are pad marks on the brake disc as a result of the brake pad material transferring to the discs. This can occur when a vehicle has been stood for long periods of time in a wet or snowy environment (Figure 4). |
| 2053177/6 | 2020-01-09. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Condition: Customer will not be aware of any fault codes. Workshop may discover spurious fault codes whilst running a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) log as part of other investigations on the vehicle. Technical Background: The attached document contains all of the current known Spurious DTCs for all vehicle variants. Should a particular TPI be listed as Archived within the attached document the TPI can no longer be viewed within Elsa pro, in this case please refer to the instructions with the attached document regarding the DTC description and actions (if any) which should be conducted Service: During routine diagnostic interrogation of vehicle systems use the attached document to determine the course of action to be taken. |
| 2053492/5 | 2020-01-09. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; SUSPENSION. Condition: The front and/or rear suspension appears to have dropped. Technical Background: The list of Bentley vehicles below are fitted with air springs as part of the suspension system. Should air leak from the air springs, this will cause the suspension to drop. However, the dropping of the suspension does not necessarily mean that the air spring is faulty. The Measure section of this TPI describes how and where to check for air leaks on the front and rear air springs, the air pump compressor, pipes, valve unit and air reservoirs. This includes potential air leak points on the air springs and also the locations of an air leak that can be repaired without the need to replace an air spring. Please follow and complete the check list within the Measure section of this TPI to help in diagnosing the issue (the check list does not need to be sent as an attachment should a DISS technical query be raised) . Should a leak be found from an air spring, compressor, valve unit or reservoir, please raise a DISS technical query and include as much information as possible including photograph/s of the leak/s location. Once the DISS ticket has been submitted please await clarification from your TSC before commencing with replacing any of the suspected faulty air springs. Mandatory reporting is applicable for all air spring related issues. |
