Service bulletins for the 2012 Audi A7

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

A171339 2030197-2017-11-17. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 17 number 13-37 dated March 13, 2013. Customer complains of excessive oil consumption. In order to provide effective lubrication and cooling of internal engine components, all internal combustion engines consume a certain amount of engine oil. Oil consumption varies from engine to engine and may change significantly over the life of the engine. Typically, engines with specified break-in periods consume more oil during the break-in period, and the oil consumption will stabilize after the break-in period. Refer to the Owner?s Manual for specific break-in procedures. Under normal conditions, the rate of oil consumption depends on the quality and viscosity of the oil, the RPM at which the engine is operated, the ambient temperature, and road conditions. Additional factors are the amount of oil dilution from water condensation or fuel residue and the oxidation level of the oil. Under certain driving conditions, internal engine pressure conditions in the 3.0 TFSI engine can negatively influence the rate of oil consumption. This can occur while the vehicle is operated in city driving conditions, for example: stop and go traffic with extended idle periods.

Central locking via remote control does not work either sporadically or permanently. The locks can still be operated manually. Missing synchronization between the remote control key and vehicle because the battery has been disconnected or the battery of the remote control has been replaced. If other senders operate in the same frequency range (mobile phones, TV stations, wireless headphones, baby monitors, other vehicle remote controls, etc.), the remote control key may have been temporarily switched off because a clear identification of the remote control key is not possible. This is necessary to prevent an unintentional unlocking of the vehicle by other unrelated senders.
A571386 2027368-2017-11-17. Service bulletin. STRUCTURE:BODY:DOOR; LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 57 number 12-73 dated September 24, 2012. The exterior door handle touch sensors (Advanced key) are inoperative on one or several doors. The key blade can be used mechanically (driver door or trunk) or remote electrically (key remote buttons) to unlock and lock the vehicle.
A571387 2029151-2017-11-17. Service bulletin. LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH; STRUCTURE:BODY:DOOR. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 57 number 12-80 dated November 9, 2012. The door cannot be opened from outside with the outer door handle, but it can be opened with the inner handle. The complaint is often described as follows: The customer locks the vehicle and checks by pulling the door handle whether the vehicle is locked. When opening the vehicle again, the door cannot be opened. It feels as if the handle is slack.
A911378 2033355-2017-11-17. Service bulletin. FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL. Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) does not work. The message "ACC and braking guard: unavailable at this time. No sensor vision" appears in the instrument cluster. DTC is logged in the distance regulation control module, J428 (address word 13).
A911380 2032706-2017-11-17. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:RADIO/TAPE DECK/CD ETC.. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 91 number 13-73 dated January 25, 2013. Customer complains of a "popping" noise from the radio followed by 10-15 seconds of no audio. The concern can happen in any audio source. Vehicle is equipped with MMI 3G or MMI 3G+ infotainment systems. Vehicle is not equipped with Bose or Bang & Olufsen sound systems. An ignition cycle is not required for audio to resume. The problem originates in the HD radio code, which can create a "resetting" within the radio unit. Because the tuner is always active in the background, the problem can occur regardless of the audio source or if the HD radio is on or off. It can also occur at any point that the MMI is on, but not necessarily active. For example, the customer opens a door and the MMI starts up. Even though the system is not ?on? because the ignition is not active, the tuner is running and can create the effect.
A941312 2017566-2017-11-17. Service bulletin. EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS:SWITCH; EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 94 number 09-23 dated August 12, 2009. Headlight switch knob is pressed in. The switch functions correctly. The headlight switch knob was designed with a normal position and a pushed-in position. This is a deliberate design feature designed to avoid injuries in the event of a collision.

The battery charge may be sufficient to operate the garage door opener, but not enough to program the remote transmitter to the vehicle system. The battery in the handheld transmitter may be too weak for a good signal. The battery charge may be sufficient to operate the garage door opener, but not enough to program the remote transmitter to the vehicle system. In A4 model years 2005?2006 and A3 model year 2009, the actual location of the garage door opener control module differs from the location shown in the owner's manual (opposite side of front bumper). The customer may misunderstand the programming procedure, particularly if the customer?s HomeLink® opener system is using an alternate code. The handheld transmitter?s programming function may become inoperative, or the transmitter is too far away from J530. Interference prevents the communication between handheld transmitter and J530. Interference prevents the communication between handheld transmitter and J530. If the vehicle flashes during the programming of a handheld transmitter, this does not necessarily indicate that the programming was successful; it only indicates that the vehicle has recognized and saved a signal.

A911520 2039515-2017-11-17. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 91 number 15-07 dated July 28, 2015. The customer complains that the Audi connect online service in their 2012-2013 A6 or A7 vehicle only reaches 2G service. This bulletin applies only to model year 2012-2013 A6 and A7 vehicles. For other models, see TSB 2039476. This bulletin does not apply to model year 2014 or newer. Starting with model year 2014, the new telephone module was installed in production. Recently, T-Mobile (the service provider for Audi connect) has repurposed some of the GSM spectrum (3G on 2100Mhz band) to maximize 4G LTE coverage in certain metropolitan areas. Devices that do not support 3G service on the 1900MHZ band (including MMI main units of model year 2012-2013 A6 and A7 vehicles) will only receive 2G service when the switch is completed. The change currently only affects the markets listed above, but will affect other markets in coming years. This bulletin will be updated to include these markets as changes occur.

DO NOT use this TSB if there is another TSB for same concern applicable to the VIN. This TSB is only intended for diagnostic purposes and does not serve as a guideline for determining warrantable conditions. Customer may report that the steering wheel vibrates or pulsates when the brakes are applied. driving style, environmental conditions, and service history of the vehicle. Additionally, as brake pads and discs wear, their dampening ability is reduced. Disc thickness variation (DTV) is a common condition that contributes to brake pulsation. DTV occurs when the two braking surfaces of the brake disc are no longer parallel to each other. This condition cannot be accurately measured with normal workshop tools.
A461523 2034181-2017-11-17. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 46 number 15-02 dated February 9, 2015. The customer may report hearing brake noise from front or rear brakes. The customer may describe these noises as a squeal, squeak, grinding, groaning, thumping, or creaking. DO NOT use this TSB if there is another brake noise TSB applicable to the VIN. For additional information, refer to the Audi Brake systems brochure. Brake noise can be attributed to many causes. Brake discs or brake pads are close to or below their wear limit. New brake pads and/or discs have not been properly imbedded after installation. Aftermarket pads or discs are installed. There is debris (such as small stones, grit, road salt, or sand) between brake disc and brake pad. Discs are covered with rust. Rust can form when the vehicle has not been driven for a long period of time. Discs are grooved. There is chemical contamination on the braking surface of the brake disc due to wheel or tire cleaner being sprayed directly onto the brake disc. There are ?pad marks? on the brake disc as a result of brake pad material transferring to the discs. Pad marks can occur when a vehicle has been parked for long periods of time in a wet or snowy environment.

Customer feels vibration in the seat, vehicle floor, footwell, pedals, or steering wheel. This condition does not lead to any handling concerns or loss of vehicle control. Customer feels the vibration while driving at highway speeds from 55 ? 80 mph (88 ? 128 km/h). This bulletin is not applicable if this vehicle has a Repair Authorization on this topic. If an applicable Repair Authorization is not followed, the claim will not be paid. Tires with higher mileage and/or wear should be inspected to determine the best correction for the issue (repair or replacement). Tire life and condition should be determined prior to starting any diagnosis or repair for a vibration.

The summaries are NHTSA's. Each bulletin's page links NHTSA's copy of the manufacturer's document.
