The noise emanates from the front suspension strut mounting. The complaint occurs most often when the vehicle is maneuvered at slow speeds (e.g., parking) or when the steering wheel is turned while the vehicle is not moving. The noise is not caused by extreme load on only one suspension strut (e.g., slowly driving uphill while turning the steering wheel). |
| Campaign Circula | 2017-11-17. Service bulletin. FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL. Work procedure revised to exclude the installation of the spring loaded flap insert. Installation video instructions removed. SAGA claiming instructions updated. As diesel engine passenger vehicles become more popular, auto manufacturers have seen an increase in the number of misfueling cases where diesel engine vehicles are mistakenly fueled with gasoline. The resulting fuel system contamination can lead to costly repairs that are not covered under warranty. As an additional safeguard to help prevent a gasoline fuel pump nozzle from being used to fuel a TDI® Clean Diesel engine vehicle, dealers will install a misfueling guard in the fuel filler neck of vehicles affected by this action. Additionally, a new fuel filler neck cap will also be installed. Please note: The misfueling guard is designed to prevent a gasoline fuel pump nozzle from entering a vehicle?s fuel filler neck, thereby reducing the risk of fuel system contamination from gasoline. Even with this guard installed, remind anyone who refuels the vehicle that it requires diesel fuel, and to double-check the fuel pump to ensure the correct fuel is selected before filling the tank. |
| Dealer Letter - | 2017-11-17. Service bulletin. FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL. We would like to inform you that the FAQ for Service Action 20U3 has been revised to include additional information for dealers to share with customers about the misfueling guard. After the 20U3 campaign has been performed, please take some time to explain the misfueling guard to your customers, using the information in the FAQ as a guide. Please also ensure that dealership personnel are familiar with the information contained in the FAQ, so that they are able to answer any customer inquiries that may arise. | A421216 2021724- | 2017-11-08. Service bulletin. STEERING; EQUIPMENT; SUSPENSION. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 40 number 12-24 dated June 6, 2012. Loud cracking or rubbing noises when turning steering wheel. Steering is not affected and will operate normally. Prior to performing this TSB, check whether the vehicle is equipped with rubber shock absorber stop and the plastic cap on the shock. Vehicles equipped with the Audi magnetic ride suspension may not be equipped with these components and this TSB will not be applicable to such vehicles. While steering, the shock absorber stop can chafe on the plastic cap of the suspension strut. If the vehicle is lifted up, the noise disappears. The boot is not properly secured / installed, or is deformed. |
| A911267 2029197- | 2017-11-08. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; EQUIPMENT. Customer states volume fluctuates unnaturally. This may be described as significant increases in Bass or Treble levels shortly after startup, in conjunction with Park Aid, or during normal driving. Only applies to vehicles equipped with BOSE sound system (PR No. 8RY) Vehicles with a BOSE sound system in conjunction with AudioPilot are equipped with dynamic driving noise compensation. It adjusts playback volume and/or equalization depending on noise inside the vehicle. This function is perceived as a flat increase in volume as the cabin noise increases, usually due to increases in speed. In some vehicles, issues with the vehicle microphones may cause the volume to noticeably change at times when it is not necessary, such as in a parking lot, or when backing out of a driveway. |
| A941296 2027773- | 2017-11-08. Service bulletin. EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS; EQUIPMENT; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 94 number 12-69 dated March 15, 2012. | A171232 2018550- | 2017-11-08. Service bulletin. ENGINE. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 17 number 12 - 31 dated August 30, 2012. Oil consumption measurement - Repair Authorization (CA). In order to provide effective lubrication and cooling of internal engine components, all internal combustion engines consume a certain amount of engine oil. Oil consumption varies from engine to engine and may change significantly over the life of the engine. Typically engines with specified break-in periods consume more oil during the break-in period, and the oil consumption will stabilize after the break-in period. Refer to the Owner's Manual for specific break-in procedures. Under normal conditions, the rate of oil consumption depends on the quality and viscosity of the oil, the RPM at which the engine is operated, the ambient temperature and road conditions. Additional factors are the amount of oil dilution from water condensation or fuel residue and the oxidation level of the oil. |
| A911262 2024323- | 2017-11-08. Service bulletin. BACK OVER PREVENTION. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 91 number 10 - 60 dated September 28, 2010. Parking aid sporadically warns of obstacles when none exist. Parking aid is inoperative or provides constant warning. Various parking aid sensor fitting issues. Environmental conditions. |
| A911263 2021151- | 2017-11-08. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; EQUIPMENT:APPLIANCE:AIR CONDITIONER. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 91 number 11 ? 83 dated April 15, 2011. The customer may report that the illumination of the dash insert, the air conditioning control panel or the inside light flickers when briefly pressing the accelerator in P or N or when shifting down while driving downhill. Only vehicles with PR number 8GH may be affected. When high electricity consumers are switched off and the battery is fully charged, the energy generated by the alternator is sometimes too great for the power system to absorb. This may lead to briefly increased voltage, and the lights mentioned above may briefly flicker. This characteristic is caused by the alternator design and is a normal condition of the vehicle. |
| A941290 2030956- | 2017-11-08. Service bulletin. EXTERIOR LIGHTING. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 94 number 12 ? 88 dated September 25, 2012. The turn signal indicator lens is inoperative without any damage from outside influence. Cracks have formed in the lens and as a result condensation can be seen behind the lens. The turn signal lens can crack due to the high amount of tension in the side mirror housing. The tension is due to improper installation of the mirror at the factory and is not a defect in the mirror housing. Replacing the mirror housing will not affect this condition. |
| A941292 2012749- | 2017-11-08. Service bulletin. EXTERIOR LIGHTING. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 94 number 11-52 dated October 11, 2011. Condensation is visible on the inside of the headlight, taillight, fog light, side marker light, front turn signal, daytime running lights, or third brake light lens. Damp air settles on the inside of a cold lens, which creates condensation. The headlight circulation system allows air from the outside to flow through the headlights. This open waterprotected ventilation system (needed for pressure compensation) creates different climate zones in the headlight: very warm areas, where the lens is warmed up by the light, and relatively cool areas, where the lens is cooled own by the air flow. Considerable differences in humidity and temperature between the inside and the outside of the headlights, even while driving, can lead to condensation. This is especially true in cold and wet weather, but it can also happen after a car wash, after steam cleaning the engine or the front end, with overnight temperature changes, etc. This phenomenon is more visible on lenses made of clear glass than on lenses with patterns. The moisture does not affect the headlight function (light performance) and does not lead to corrosion or other damage to headlight parts. |
| A401228 2031722- | 2017-11-08. Service bulletin. STRUCTURE; SUSPENSION; EQUIPMENT. Customer may report creaking and squeaking noises from front axle when driving at low temperatures on rough/bumpy/uneven roads. The customer complaint can be reproduced. The sound comes from the rubber and metal mounting of the front track control arms. The rubber lip of the rubber metal mounting rubs on the collar of the control arm. The resulting stickslip effect creates this sound, which does not affect the service life and function of the components. This is a normal condition. Track control arm bushings that are completely cracked through should be replaced. |
| A901238 2032113- | 2017-11-08. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; EQUIPMENT. The customer may state that the outside ambient temperature display is incorrect. To achieve a smoothening effect of the displayed outside ambient temperature, the value shown does not instantaneously follow the temperature sensor measurement. The display will not change faster than 4° F (2° C) per minute. This concept applies to both falling and rising temperatures. A programming strategy is also implemented to avoid incorrect readings on a parked vehicle, due to the temperature sensor being affected by outside influences such as radiant heat from the engine bay, elevated road surface temperatures, etc. |
