Recalls that may apply to the 1985 Audi 5000

A recall listed here may apply to a vehicle of this year, make and model. Only the manufacturer can say whether it applies to one vehicle: check the VIN with the official lookups.

By component

United States: NHTSA, as of 2026-10-19
93V0060001993-01-11. POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY. THE DIFFERENTIAL OIL OF THE TRANSAXLE IS LOST OVER TIME DUE TO EVAPORATION. LOW OIL LEVELS CAUSE PREMATURE BEARING AND GEAR WEAR AND EVENTUAL FAILURE OF THE DIFFERENTIAL. Built 1984-10-01 to 1991-01-01.
89V0060001989-01-17. FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE. FUEL INJECTION SEALS MAY HARDEN, DUE TO HIGH TEMPERATURE AND ALCOHOL IN SOME FUELS, AND ALLOW FUEL TO ESCAPE INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. Built 1983-08-01 to 1988-11-01.
87V1700001987-10-28. VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:CRUISE CONTROL. MALFUNCTIONS OF INTERNAL COMPONENTS OF IDLE CONTROL UNIT COULD CAUSE IDLE STABILIZER VALVE TO BECOME ACTIVATED OUTSIDE ITS NORMAL OPERATING RANGE. Built 1983-08-01 to 1985-06-01.
87V1570001987-10-06. FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY. REPEATED TOPPING OFF OF FUEL TANK DURING REFUELING REDUCES THE EXPANSION SPACE WITHIN THE TANK ALLOWING VAPORS TO ESCAPE FROM THE CHARCOAL FILTER TO OUTSIDE RATHER THAN BEING INDUCTED INTO THE ENGINE. Built 1983-08-01 to 1987-09-01.
87V0090001987-01-03. VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:CRUISE CONTROL. THE IDLE STABILIZER MAY EXPERIENCE EXCESSIVE WEAR, CAUSING ENGINE IDLE FLUCTUATIONS, USUALLY DESCRIBED AS ENGINE SURGE, WHICH INCREASE WITH USAGE OF THE CAR. Built 1984-08-01 to 1986-04-01.
87V0080001987-01-03. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:FLOOR SHIFT. SUDDEN ACCELERATION FROM A STATIONARY POSITION MAY OCCUR, WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK TO REVERSE OR DRIVE. Built 1977-08-01 to 1986-07-01.
86V1030001986-08-04. FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM. MISADJUSTMENT OF FUEL DISTRIBUTOR ALLOWS FUEL TO ESCAPE AND BE ABSORBED BY THE AIR FILTER. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: WITH THE FUEL ABSORBED BY THE AIR FILTER AND AN ENGINE BACKFIRE ON RESTART, THIS FUEL COULD IGNITE AND RESULT IN AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE. Built 1984-08-01 to 1986-07-01.
Canada: Transport Canada, as of 2026-10-19
19930081993-01-22. Powertrain. ON VEHICLES WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, A LOW OIL LEVEL IN THE DIFFERENTIAL COULD CAUSE PREMATURE BEARING AND GEAR WEAR AND EVENTUAL FAILURE OF THE DIFFERENTIAL. THIS COULD RESULT IN POSSIBLE DRIVE WHEEL LOCK-UP AND LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. CORRECTION: DIFFERENTIAL WILL BE DRAINED AND OIL WILL BE REPLACED WITH AN ADVANCED DESIGN HIGH PERFORMANCE GEAR OIL. OWNERS WILL BE PROVIDED WITH A REVISED MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE.
19890071989-01-16. Fuel System. On certain Audi 200 turbo and 5000 turbo, the fuel injector seals may harden due to high temperature and alcohol in fuel. This could allow fuel to escape and leak into the engine compartment as a result of turbo pressure. Fuel escaping in this manner could drop onto hot engine components and cause a fire. Correction: Fuel injector seals will be replaced with improved seals, fuel lines will be replaced with fire resistant fuel lines and the sound proofing pad will be replaced with an improved surface treated non- flammable pad. Also, measures will be taken to better seal the engine against lubricant leakage.
19871181987-11-04. Engine. On Audi 5000 and 5000 turbo with automatic transmissions, the idle control unit may experience isolated malfunctions of internal electronic components which could cause the idle stabilizer valve to become activated outside its normal operating range. This could cause the rpm to become erratic resulting in possible control problems. Correction: Idle control units will be replaced on all affected vehicles.
19871041987-10-01. Fuel System. On certain Audi 5000 turbo and 5000 Quattro, repeated `topping off' of the fuel tank after the gas station pump has stopped the fuel supply during refuelling, reduces the expansion space within the fuel tank. Consequent pressure conditions within the evaporative emission control system could result in fuel vapours being released into the engine compartment. Heat from the turbo exhaust system could ignite the vapours and cause an engine compartment fire with a risk of injury to the vehicle occupants. Correction: Vehicles will be fitted with a new vent valve and a new type charcoal filter vent hose. In addition, Quattro models will receive a redesigned fuel filler neck.
19870101987-01-29. Engine. WHEN SHIFTING THE TRANSMISSION FROM `PARK' TO EITHER `REVERSE' OR `DRIVE', UNINTENDED VEHICLE ACCELERATION MAY OCCUR WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF VEHICLE CRASH. CORRECTION: AN AUTOMATIC SHIFT LOCK WILL BE INSTALLED IN ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES. THIS WILL PREVENT SHIFTING FROM `PARK' TO `REVERSE' OR `DRIVE' UNLESS THE BRAKE PEDAL IS APPLIED. V.I.N. RANGE WAU**044*E*000001 TO WAU**044*G*160000 NOTE: CHANGED FROM A SERVICE ACTION, SEPT.29,1986 TO A SAFETY RELATED RECALL
19860841986-08-06. Fuel System. MALADJUSTMENT OF THE FUEL DISTRIBUTOR COULD ALLOW A SMALL AMOUNT OF FUEL TO ESCAPE IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE ENGINE HAS BEEN TURNED OFF, AND BE ABSORBED INTO THE AIR FILTER. IF THE ENGINE MISFIRES DURING RESTARTING, THE FUEL ABSORBED BY THE AIR FILTER COULD IGNITE AND CAUSE A FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. CORRECTION: AN AIR FILTER MODIFICATION KIT WILL BE INSTALLED. IN ADDITION THE ENGINE IDLE STABILIZER VALVE WILL BE INSPECTED AND REPLACED IF NECCESSARY. V.I.N.RANGE WAU..044.FN000001 TO WAU..044.GN100600

A campaign lists a year, a make and a model, and often only some of the vehicles built. A list with nothing on it is not a clearance either. The lookups below check one VIN.
