Service bulletin 09-031-23

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

NHTSA's summary

Some vehicles may exhibit that the power liftgate cannot be opened while stuck in an partially latched or fully opened/closed position. This may be caused by improper control software of the power liftgate control module. To eliminate this concern, the control software of the power liftgate control module has been modified.

Other bulletins for the same vehicles and component
SA-017-24a2024-05-04. Service bulletin. Some customers may complain about any of the following: 1. Infotainment Center Display does not provide the Authorization Code (OTP) during the MyMazda App Connected Vehicle enrollment. 2. Remote function(s) inoperative. Engine Start / Stop Door Lock / Unlock Lights ON / OFF Climate Control
09-024-242024-05-04. Service bulletin. Some customers may experience that the liftgate or the trunk lid will not unlock even when the vehicle is parked and the ignition is off. If the engine is running (POWER ON) or the ignition is turned to on (READY ON), it will unlock. To eliminate this concern, the control software of the DSC HU/CM (or the electronically controlled brake unit) has been modified.
09-012-242024-03-05. Service bulletin. Some customers may complain about clicking noise coming from the liftgate latch-and-lock actuator (lock actuator) when driving on bumpy roads. This is caused by stick-slip friction between the lock actuator and the lock striker due to wear debris originating from the friction between them. To eliminate this concern, the lock striker coating has been changed to prevent coating wear.
SA-085-232024-01-04. Service bulletin. Some customers may experience an issue where the hood cannot be opened using the release cable. To open the hood for diagnosis and repairs, follow the repair procedure below.
09-042-232023-12-05. Service bulletin. Some customers may complain that the power liftgate may open unintentionally at a stop or while parking. This may be caused by the power liftgate button in the remote transmitter being pressed unintentionally in a pocket or a bag. To help with this concern, the control software of the Body Control Module (BCM) has been modified to optimize the operation parameter for the power liftgate button in the remote transmitter. NOTE: The operation itself is same as before (hold the power liftgate button to open).
09-031-23a2023-12-05. Service bulletin. Some vehicles may exhibit that the power liftgate cannot be opened while stuck in an partially latched or fully opened/closed position, or it may reverse and open just before fully closing. with the following DTCs possibly stored in memory. B1451:02 BCM - Motor return switch circuit malfunction B1456:62 BCM - Latch condition malfunction U2646:16 BCM - Power liftgate (PLG) control module low power supply voltage input This may be caused by improper control software of the power liftgate control module. To eliminate this concern, the control software of the power liftgate control module has been modified.
09-036-232023-11-01. Service bulletin. Some vehicles may exhibit a malfunction that the rear door cannot be opened or is hard to open with the rear outer handle. This is caused by the operating force not being sufficiently transmitted from the rear door outer handle as the tolerance of a latch and a rod in the rear outer handle base is inaccurate. To eliminate this concern, the length of the rod, which transfers the operating force of the outer handle, has been modified.
09-035-232023-11-01. Service bulletin. Some customers may complain about clicking noise coming from the liftgate latch-and-lock actuator (lock actuator) when driving on bumpy roads. This is caused by stick-slip friction between the lock actuator and the lock striker due to wear debris originating from the friction between them. A mass production change is under study.
SA-046-232023-09-05. Service bulletin. Customers may report that the power liftgate (PLG) does not open, close, latch, unlatch, or stops mid-operation.
SA-047-232023-09-03. Service bulletin. Some vehicles may exhibit poor hands-free liftgate operation after a Mazda genuine trailer tow hitch accessory installation. IMPORTANT: When a Mazda genuine trailer tow hitch is installed on a CX-90 equipped with hands-free liftgate function, the sensing area is reduced due to the mechanical structure of the hitch. The hands-free liftgate’s optimal sensing area below the rear bumper is shown in green boxes in the image below. Since the left side of the hitch has a 7-pin connector socket, the right side is the most ideal for hands-free operation. For safety, be extra careful performing the kicking motion around the hitch.
