Service bulletin 04-001-17-3303a

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

NHTSA's summary

Some vehicles may exhibit a squeak type noise from the rear brakes when driving at approximately 6-12mph (10-20km/h) with or without light braking. The noise usually occurs when driving immediately after the parking brake is released. The noise may be caused by poor bake pad adhesive tape contact.

04-007-20-3713a2020-12-03. Service bulletin. Some vehicles equipped with electric parking brake (EPB) may exhibit a grinding noise from the rear brakes when braking. This may be caused by the rear brake pads not having the capability to remove the rust from the rear brake discs. The red rust accumulated on the discs is exposed to high temperatures during braking, and consequently the rust turns black. As the black rust is too hard to be removed by the brake pads, the rust progress is accelerated, resulting in the grinding noise.
