The evaporative emissions pipe that connects to the inlet of the purge valve may rub against an air conditioning hose connector causing the pipe to chafe. Over time, such chafing can cause a small hole in the evaporative emissions pipe. If this were to occur, the evaporative emission system small leak detected Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC P0442) would set and the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (check engine light) would illuminate.
