If the rider then shifts into second gear without disengaging the clutch under the very high engine RPM condition, an excessive load can be applied to the powertrain, which can cause the drive chain to stretch and potentially come off or break resulting in a loss of motive power, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
