If the sensor stator were to move out of position, it could change the sensor signal output, resulting in a high idle. On vehicles equipped with manual transmissions, if the clutch were to be depressed during operation, the engine could rise to governed RPMs resulting in difficulty selecting gears while shifting. In the condition of a loaded vehicle going down a long grade, the inability to down shift could cause difficulty in maintaining or reducing vehicle speed with just the service brakes, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
