Canadian regulations require these lights to turn on to demonstrate that the airbag system is working properly (bulb check) and to remind a driver to fasten their seat belt.\n\nSafety Risk:\nWarning lights that do not turn on during the start-up check could confuse a driver. In addition, the driver would not see a reminder to fasten their seat belt.
