This could result in insufficient clamp load on the joints, which over time may cause fatigue of one or more of the steering gear retention bolts.  If the steering gear bolts were to fatigue, one or more of the bolts could fracture, which could result in a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
