Reduced lubrication may cause the differential to become noisier.  Continued use may cause damage to bearings and other differential components.  Three conditions could occur: 1). When the vehicle is stopped and shifted to reverse, the differential may jam and prevent vehicle movement.  2). the damage can cause drag that will feel like the parking brake is applied; or 3) the differential could jam and lock the drive wheels while the vehicle is underway.  Should the latter occur, it could result in a loss of vehicle control and a crash, causing injury or death. Une lubrification réduite pourrait faire en sorte que le différentiel devienne plus bruyant. Dans un tel cas, si on continuait à utiliser le véhicule, des roulements et d'autres pièces du différentiel pourraient être endommagés. Trois problèmes pourraient survenir : 1) lorsque le véhicule est arrêté et que la boîte de vitesses est mise en marche arrière, le différentiel pourrait se bloquer et empêcher le véhicule de bouger; 2) les dommages pourraient causer une résistance au roulement qui donnerait l'impression que le frein de stationnement est serré; ou 3) le différentiel pourrait se bloquer et verrouiller les roues motrices pendant que le véhicule roule.
