Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has extended the warranty for the accelerator pedal wiring harness and connectors from the original New Vehicle Limited Warranty of 4 years/50,000 miles to 10 years/120,000 miles for certain Model Year (“MY”) 2016-2019 Mercedes-Benz E-Class and GLC-Class vehicles (213, 238, and 253 platforms). This warranty extension applies to the electrical wiring and plug connection on the accelerator pedal, as it may not meet current production specifications. When the vehicle is being driven, contact resistance could occur in the accelerator pedal signal lines which would be detected by the engine control unit. As a result, the engine could go in to limp home mode. Also, ESP®, BAS, PRE-SAFE®, HOLD function, Hill-Start Assist and ESP® trailer stabilization may be unavailable, and the Adaptive Brake Assist and/or ATTENTION ASSIST may be temporarily deactivated. These support functions are available again after an ignition off/on cycle. The brake, steering, and ABS systems continue to operate with normal effectiveness.
