This can be done by first letting the vehicle cold soak. The noise is normally heard in temperatures ranging from 15- 40 degrees (F). With one person in the vehicle turning the steering wheel, place your hand on the front spring. If a vibration is felt when the noise is heard by the vehicle occupant, the issue is from the front suspension ? not in the steering column.
