Dimensional variation of the bush boots in the rear hub support may cause insufficient sealing which allows water to enter the rear hub support, resulting in rust on the pillow-ball. The rust then accelerates the pillow-ball wear and causes a gap between the body and the bearing, resulting in the clunk noise during driving. To eliminate this concern, the boots in the rear hub support have been modified to improve sealing.","document":{"url":"https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2022/MC-10209780-0001.pdf","alternate_url":"https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2022/MC-10209780-9999.pdf","confirmed":false},"url":"https://open.wenmarpro.com/bulletins/10209780","components":[{"id":"equipment","name":"Equipment and accessories","parent":null},{"id":"suspension","name":"Suspension","parent":null}],"codes":[],"topics":[],"vehicles":[{"make":"MAZDA","model":"MX-5","year_from":2016,"year_to":2021,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2016_mazda_mx-5","2017_mazda_mx-5","2018_mazda_mx-5","2019_mazda_mx-5","2020_mazda_mx-5","2021_mazda_mx-5"]}],"as_of":"2026-10-19","note":"A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it.
