Vehicle cannot be unlocked/locked or started via Comfort Access. Remote control functionality is restored by pressing any of the key buttons or by removing and reinstalling the remote control key battery. The Display Key Digital Key and the Digital Key Card are not affected. Electrostatic discharge puts the remote control key into a deep sleep. Various situations can lead to an electrostatic charge which is often not recognized by the customer. For example walking over carpet wearing shoes that have a hard rubber sole positive and negative charges are exchanged. The sole accumulates a negative charge and an electrostatic charge develops before touching the remote control key.","document":{"url":"https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10174317-0001.pdf","alternate_url":"https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10174317-9999.pdf","confirmed":false},"url":"https://open.wenmarpro.com/bulletins/10174317","components":[{"id":"equipment","name":"Equipment and accessories","parent":null},{"id":"latches-locks","name":"Latches and locks","parent":null}],"codes":[],"topics":[],"vehicles":[{"make":"BMW","model":"330I","year_from":2019,"year_to":2020,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2019_bmw_330i","2020_bmw_330i"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"530E","year_from":2018,"year_to":2020,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2018_bmw_530e","2019_bmw_530e","2020_bmw_530e"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"530I","year_from":2017,"year_to":2020,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2017_bmw_530i","2018_bmw_530i","2019_bmw_530i","2020_bmw_530i"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"540D","year_from":2018,"year_to":2019,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2018_bmw_540d","2019_bmw_540d"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"540D","year_from":2020,"year_to":2020,"match":null,"vehicle_ids":[]},{"make":"BMW","model":"540I","year_from":2017,"year_to":2020,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2017_bmw_540i","2018_bmw_540i","2019_bmw_540i","2020_bmw_540i"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"640I","year_from":2018,"year_to":2019,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2018_bmw_640i","2019_bmw_640i"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"640I","year_from":2020,"year_to":2020,"match":null,"vehicle_ids":[]},{"make":"BMW","model":"740E","year_from":2017,"year_to":2019,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2017_bmw_740e","2018_bmw_740e","2019_bmw_740e"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"740I","year_from":2017,"year_to":2020,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2017_bmw_740i","2018_bmw_740i","2019_bmw_740i","2020_bmw_740i"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"740LI","year_from":2016,"year_to":2017,"match":null,"vehicle_ids":[]},{"make":"BMW","model":"745E","year_from":2020,"year_to":2020,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2020_bmw_745e"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"750I","year_from":2018,"year_to":2019,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2018_bmw_750i","2019_bmw_750i"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"750LI","year_from":2016,"year_to":2019,"match":null,"vehicle_ids":[]},{"make":"BMW","model":"840I","year_from":2020,"year_to":2020,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2020_bmw_840i"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"B7 ALPINA","year_from":2018,"year_to":2020,"match":null,"vehicle_ids":[]},{"make":"BMW","model":"M340I","year_from":2020,"year_to":2020,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2020_bmw_m340i"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"M5","year_from":2018,"year_to":2020,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2018_bmw_m5","2019_bmw_m5","2020_bmw_m5"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"M550I","year_from":2017,"year_to":2017,"match":null,"vehicle_ids":[]},{"make":"BMW","model":"M550I","year_from":2018,"year_to":2020,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2018_bmw_m550i","2019_bmw_m550i","2020_bmw_m550i"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"M760I","year_from":2017,"year_to":2020,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2017_bmw_m760i","2018_bmw_m760i","2019_bmw_m760i","2020_bmw_m760i"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"M8","year_from":2020,"year_to":2020,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2020_bmw_m8"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"M8 GRAN COUPE","year_from":2020,"year_to":2020,"match":null,"vehicle_ids":[]},{"make":"BMW","model":"M850I","year_from":2019,"year_to":2019,"match":null,"vehicle_ids":[]},{"make":"BMW","model":"M850I","year_from":2020,"year_to":2020,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2020_bmw_m850i"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"M850XI","year_from":2019,"year_to":2019,"match":null,"vehicle_ids":[]},{"make":"BMW","model":"X3","year_from":2018,"year_to":2020,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2018_bmw_x3","2019_bmw_x3","2020_bmw_x3"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"X4","year_from":2019,"year_to":2020,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2019_bmw_x4","2020_bmw_x4"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"X5","year_from":2019,"year_to":2020,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2019_bmw_x5","2020_bmw_x5"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"X6","year_from":2020,"year_to":2020,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2020_bmw_x6"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"X7","year_from":2019,"year_to":2020,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2019_bmw_x7","2020_bmw_x7"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"Z4","year_from":2019,"year_to":2020,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2019_bmw_z4","2020_bmw_z4"]}],"as_of":"2026-10-19","note":"A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it.
