Operating a vehicle?s diesel engine on fuels and additives that do not meet the vehicle manufacturer?s specifications for lubrication and cooling, or that have improper anti-corrosion properties, can cause drivability problems as well as component damage or even failure. Due to the tight tolerances on modern diesel engines, contaminants such as water can dilute the lubricating properties of diesel fuel and cause engine damage. For instance, water can lead to acid forming in the fuel system, which can be extremely caustic and harmful to the engine. Contamination of high pressure fuel system components may cause symptoms including, but not limited to, the following:","document":{"url":"https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2017/MC-10164556-0001.pdf","alternate_url":"https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2017/MC-10164556-9999.pdf","confirmed":false},"url":"https://open.wenmarpro.com/bulletins/10164556","components":[{"id":"fuel-system","name":"Fuel system","parent":null}],"codes":[],"topics":[],"vehicles":[{"make":"ISUZU","model":"N-SERIES","year_from":1997,"year_to":2020,"match":null,"vehicle_ids":[]}],"as_of":"2026-10-19","note":"A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it.
