The low washer fluid warning light is illuminated even though the washer fluid tank is full. There are no faults stored in the system for the washer fluid level switch. CAUSE A non-approved washer fluid is used (fluids that contain a silicone additive, normally colored other than blue). INFORMATION The washer fluid level sensor is a contactless capacitive sensor. The sensor sends a low fluid level signal to the gateway module (FEM - Front Electronics Module or BDC - Body Domain Controller) which in turn displays a low washer fluid warning in the instrument cluster. The use of a \"\"non-approved\"\" washer fluid (silicone-based fluid) can cause the low fluid warning light to come on even when the reservoir is full. Refer to ISTA document \"\"FB-GZ-B17A-F20 Washer fluid level sensor\"\" for information on how this capacitive sensor operates.\"","document":{"url":"https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2016/MC-10151268-9999.pdf","alternate_url":"https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2016/MC-10151268-0001.pdf","confirmed":false},"url":"https://open.wenmarpro.com/bulletins/10151268","components":[{"id":"visibility","name":"Glass, wipers and mirrors","parent":null},{"id":"wiper","name":"Wipers and washers","parent":"visibility"}],"codes":[],"topics":[],"vehicles":[{"make":"BMW","model":"228I","year_from":2014,"year_to":2016,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2014_bmw_228i","2015_bmw_228i","2016_bmw_228i"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"230I","year_from":2017,"year_to":2018,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2017_bmw_230i","2018_bmw_230i"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"320I","year_from":2013,"year_to":2017,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2013_bmw_320i","2014_bmw_320i","2015_bmw_320i","2016_bmw_320i","2017_bmw_320i"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"328D","year_from":2014,"year_to":2017,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2014_bmw_328d","2015_bmw_328d","2016_bmw_328d","2017_bmw_328d"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"328I","year_from":2012,"year_to":2016,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2012_bmw_328i","2013_bmw_328i","2014_bmw_328i","2015_bmw_328i","2016_bmw_328i"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"330E","year_from":2016,"year_to":2017,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2016_bmw_330e","2017_bmw_330e"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"330I","year_from":2017,"year_to":2017,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2017_bmw_330i"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"335I","year_from":2012,"year_to":2017,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2012_bmw_335i","2013_bmw_335i","2014_bmw_335i","2015_bmw_335i","2016_bmw_335i","2017_bmw_335i"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"340I","year_from":2016,"year_to":2017,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2016_bmw_340i","2017_bmw_340i"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"428I","year_from":2014,"year_to":2016,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2014_bmw_428i","2015_bmw_428i","2016_bmw_428i"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"430I","year_from":2017,"year_to":2018,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2017_bmw_430i","2018_bmw_430i"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"435I","year_from":2014,"year_to":2016,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2014_bmw_435i","2015_bmw_435i","2016_bmw_435i"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"440I","year_from":2017,"year_to":2018,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2017_bmw_440i","2018_bmw_440i"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"ACTIVE HYBRID 3","year_from":2013,"year_to":2013,"match":null,"vehicle_ids":[]},{"make":"BMW","model":"ACTIVE HYBRID 3","year_from":2014,"year_to":2015,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2014_bmw_activehybrid-3","2015_bmw_activehybrid-3"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"M235I","year_from":2014,"year_to":2016,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2014_bmw_m235i","2015_bmw_m235i","2016_bmw_m235i"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"M240I","year_from":2017,"year_to":2018,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2017_bmw_m240i","2018_bmw_m240i"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"X5","year_from":2014,"year_to":2017,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2014_bmw_x5","2015_bmw_x5","2016_bmw_x5","2017_bmw_x5"]},{"make":"BMW","model":"X6","year_from":2015,"year_to":2017,"match":"exact","vehicle_ids":["2015_bmw_x6","2016_bmw_x6","2017_bmw_x6"]}],"as_of":"2026-10-19","note":"A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it.
