It is often referred to as Typewriter Noise because of its similarity to the sound of a mechanical typewriter. When engine temperatures reach 150 Å?F (65 Å?C) or higher, (from engine idle up to approximately 1700 RPM's), this noise can typically be heard at the front wheel well and is often isolated to the transmission bell housing or oil pan area. Typewriter Noise is not detrimental to engine function or durability and has no short or long term effects on the engine. Do not attempt repairs to eliminate this noise. This noise is characteristic of the 6.7L diesel engine and will typically cease or diminish significantly within the oil change maintenance interval.","document":{"url":"https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2018/MC-10140328-9999.pdf","alternate_url":"https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2018/MC-10140328-0001.pdf","confirmed":false},"url":"https://open.wenmarpro.com/bulletins/10140328","components":[{"id":"engine","name":"Engine","parent":null}],"codes":[],"topics":["maintenance"],"vehicles":[{"make":"FORD","model":"F-250 SD","year_from":2011,"year_to":2018,"match":"base","vehicle_ids":["2011_ford_f-250","2012_ford_f-250","2013_ford_f-250","2014_ford_f-250","2015_ford_f-250","2016_ford_f-250","2017_ford_f-250","2018_ford_f-250"]},{"make":"FORD","model":"F-350 SD","year_from":2011,"year_to":2018,"match":"base","vehicle_ids":["2011_ford_f-350","2012_ford_f-350","2013_ford_f-350","2014_ford_f-350","2015_ford_f-350","2016_ford_f-350","2017_ford_f-350","2018_ford_f-350"]},{"make":"FORD","model":"F-450 SD","year_from":2011,"year_to":2017,"match":"base","vehicle_ids":["2011_ford_f-450","2012_ford_f-450","2013_ford_f-450","2014_ford_f-450","2015_ford_f-450","2016_ford_f-450","2017_ford_f-450"]},{"make":"FORD","model":"F-550 SD","year_from":2011,"year_to":2017,"match":"base","vehicle_ids":["2011_ford_f-550","2012_ford_f-550","2013_ford_f-550","2014_ford_f-550","2015_ford_f-550","2016_ford_f-550","2017_ford_f-550"]},{"make":"FORD","model":"F-650 SD","year_from":2011,"year_to":2018,"match":"base","vehicle_ids":["2011_ford_f-650","2012_ford_f-650","2013_ford_f-650","2014_ford_f-650","2015_ford_f-650","2016_ford_f-650","2017_ford_f-650","2018_ford_f-650"]},{"make":"FORD","model":"F-750 SD","year_from":2011,"year_to":2018,"match":"base","vehicle_ids":["2011_ford_f-750","2012_ford_f-750","2013_ford_f-750","2014_ford_f-750","2015_ford_f-750","2016_ford_f-750","2017_ford_f-750","2018_ford_f-750"]}],"as_of":"2026-10-19","note":"A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it.
