What is wrong

Issue:

On a small number of trucks equipped with a Hendrickson Composilite steerable lift axle, the steering knuckles may not have been assembled properly during production. As a result, oil could leak from the wheel hub and cause the axle spindles to become loose and separate.

Safety Risk:

Parts that separate from the truck could create a road hazard for others and increase the risk of a crash.

Corrective Actions:

Paccar will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your truck to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the steering knuckles assemblies.

24PBB2024-03-04. Service bulletin. Reference Hendrickson Recall 23E-095 Hendrickson alerted Peterbilt to a limited number of Hendrickson COMPOSILITE® EXS20 steerable, auxiliary lift axle suspension assemblies and individual steering knuckle assembly components that are equipped with bearing journals that may not have been seated correctly to the backbones of the left and right-side steering knuckle assembly components during manufacture. Loss of oil from the respective axle hubs may cause the spindles to become loose from the steering knuckle assemblies or otherwise fracture and/or cause wheel end hub damage . This can further result in foreign object debris on the roadway, increasing the risk of a crash and/or injury.

A bulletin is the manufacturer's note to its dealers. It is not part of this recall.
