What is wrong

On certain vehicles equipped with a 6.7L diesel engine and a middle position fuel tank, there could be inadequate adhesion between the protective shield and the fuel conditioning module. This could allow for the the shield to be dislodged by road debris or water spray, which could force open the drain valve on the module. If the drain valve were to be forced open, this could result in substantial fuel leak. It could also allow for air ingress into the fuel system, which may cause the engine to stumble. A substantial fuel leak on a road surface could increase the risk of a crash, and a fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the adhesive mounted protective shield on the fuel conditioning module with a bolt-on metallic protective shield.

Bulletins for the same vehicles and component
SSM 504482022-02-04. Service bulletin. Some 2017-2022 F-Super-Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L diesel engine may exhibit a hard start, lack of power and/or runs rough concern with an illuminated malfunction indicator light (MIL) and diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0087 and/or P008A. This may be due to low fuel level or fuel gelling in cold ambient temperatures. If no root cause is determined after normal Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) pinpoint test MA, recommend that the customer use a different brand of fuel and use Motorcraft® PM-23-A Diesel Fuel Anti-Gel and Performance Improver. Inform the customer that bio-diesel blended fuels have a higher occurrence of fuel gelling. Fuel gelling and or low fuel conditions causing a P0087 and/or P008A is not covered under warranty.
SSM 498462021-07-02. Service bulletin. Some 2017-2019 F-Super Duty/F-650/F-750 vehicles may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P24D1 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). To correct the condition, replace the particulate matter sensor. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-14. For F-650/F-750 vehicles, use LC4Z-5L216-A. For F-Super Duty pickup and 203" wheelbase chassis cab vehicles, use LC3Z-5L216-C. For F-Super Duty 145/179/192" wheelbase chassis cab vehicles, use LC3Z-5L216-B. For F-Super Duty 168/169/193/205" wheelbase chassis cab vehicles, use LC3Z-5L216-A. For claiming, use causal part 5L239 and applicable labor operations in Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.
SSM 490652020-09-04. Service bulletin. Some 2011-2020 F-Super Duty, 2015-2019 Transit, 2016-2021 F-650/F-750 and 2018-2020 F-150 vehicles equipped with a 6.7L, 3.2L or 3.0L engine may exhibit an illuminated MIL with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P207F, P20EE, P229F, P2201 and/or P24AE. This may be a result of using aftermarket cleaning liquids or tools for the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler or intake. Ford does not recommend the cleaning of diesel intakes or EGR coolers using any aftermarket tool that injects a cleaning foam or liquid substance into the EGR cooler or intake. Using these types of fluids can result in sodium poisoning of the NOx and particulate matter (PM) sensors resulting in degraded operation and permanent damage to the after treatment system. Use of these cleaning tools may void the emissions warranty of the hot end after treatment exhaust system and the attached emissions sensors.
TSB-20-21052020-05-05. Service bulletin. Some 2017-2019 F-Super Duty chassis cab vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine and an aft of axle fuel tank operating in dusty conditions may exhibit a crank/no start concern with the fuel level showing over 1/4 tank full or the fuel gauge only registers up to 1/2 tank after filling with fuel. For vehicles equipped with an auxiliary fuel delivery source, the customer may also experience the inability to deliver fuel using this equipment. This may be due to dirt being trapped around the dust cap on the front or rear rollover valve (ROV) preventing "make-up air" from entering the fuel tank. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to replace the fuel tank and possibly also the fuel pump/sender unit.
SSM 478362019-04-08. Service bulletin. Some 2011-2019 F-Super Duty 6.7L diesel equipped vehicles may exhibit a ticking/tapping noise traced to the reductant injector.
SSM 478362019-04-01. Service bulletin. Some 2011-2019 F-Super Duty 6.7L diesel equipped vehicles may exhibit a ticking/tapping noise traced to the reductant injector.
SSM 477122019-03-04. Service bulletin. Some 2017-2019 F-Super Duty and 2016-2019 F650-750 with 6.7L diesel engines, 2015-2019 Transit with 3.2L diesel engines and 2018-2019 F-150 with 3.0L diesel engines may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P206C in the powertrain control module (PCM). Review of repair data supports that P206C is often the result of incorrect diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) concentration. Per Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Pinpoint Test (PPT) RJ, a DEF concentration reading below 28% will set P206C and cause vehicle derate. If low concentration is suspected, drain fluid and replace with known good DEF before replacing any parts. Low concentration of DEF is not a warrantable condition.
TSB 18-22252019-03-04. Service bulletin. Some 2017-2018 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L diesel engine built on or before 09-Jul-2018 may exhibit an illuminated MIL with DTCs P24AE, P24AF, P24B1, P24B3, P24C6, P24C7, and/or P24DA in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to a concern with the diesel particulate matter sensor. Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SSM 474022018-09-10. Service bulletin. When performing diagnostics for DTCs P2201, P2452, P2459, P246C and/or P2463, a manual regeneration and diesel particulate filter (DPF) parameter reset using the appropriate scan tool may need to be performed. To perform the manual regeneration, go to the Toolbox tab > Powertrain > Service Functions > Diesel Particulate Regeneration System > DPF Manual Regeneration. The scan tool may indicate that a regeneration of the DPF is not recommended at this time, selecting YES on this screen will allow the regeneration process to complete. To perform the DPF parameter reset, go to the Toolbox tab > Powertrain > Service Functions > Diesel Particulate Regeneration System > DPF Parameter Reset.
SSM 473462018-07-23. Service bulletin. Some 2017-2018 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L diesel engine built on or before 6-Dec-2017 may exhibit an exhaust odor in the vehicle cabin. This may be due to a leak at the turbocharger inlet clamps. Performing a pressurized smoke test on the exhaust system will aid in locating the source of a leak. While performing the smoke test, the use of a small mirror can help identify leaks underneath the clamps. Refer to the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Manual Pinpoint Test KA, Step KA3. Note that the turbo charger is not a contributing factor in the exhaust leak issue.

A bulletin is the manufacturer's note to its dealers. It is not part of this recall.
