What is wrong
On certain vehicles, improper nickel plating of certain fuel pump internal components could contaminate the pump, potentially resulting in an inoperative fuel pump. This could result in a no-start condition, or an engine stall without warning and without the ability to restart the vehicle, which could increase the risk of a crash. Correction: Dealers will replace the Fuel Delivery Module (FDM).

If normal diagnosis leads to a biased or failed Fuel Low Pressure (FLP) sensor, the sensor is available without the need to order the entire fuel line assembly. The FLP sensor, located on the fuel supply line to the high pressure pump, provides the low side fuel pressure input to the PCM so the Fuel Driver Module can be controlled accordingly. The FLP PID can be viewed in the Datalogger and then compared to a manual pressure gauge per pinpoint test HC in the PCED to validate the sensor is working properly. The Fusion/MKZ catalog has been updated to show the sensor availability. |

SERVICE PROCEDURE 1. Is the vehicle a 2016 Escape or MKC? a. Yes - check the vehicle build date. Was the vehicle built on or before 12/15/2015? (1) Yes - proceed to Step 2. (2) No - this article does not apply. b. No - proceed to Step 2. 2. Inspect the PCV hose to make sure it is properly connected to the valve cover and the low pressure intake duct. a. For Escape and Focus ST vehicles remove the cowl panel grille to access the hose. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-02. b. For Edge vehicles remove the air cleaner outlet pipe to access the hose. Refer to WSM, Section 303-12. 3. Does the PCV hose exhibit a fuel smell or was the hose disconnected? a. Yes - replace hose and reassemble the vehicle. b. No - Refer to WSM, Section 303-13 for normal diagnosis. |
