What is wrong

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2022 Maverick vehicles previously repaired under recall number 24V-267. The body and power train control modules may fail to detect a change in the 12-volt battery state of charge.

What can happen

An undetected low battery charge can result in a loss of electrical accessories such as hazard lights, or cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Dealers will recalibrate the body control module and power train control module, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 26, 2024. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 24S50.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

Bulletins for the same vehicles and component
SSM 519212023-10-04. Service bulletin. Some 2022-2023 Maverick vehicles equipped with 2.5L full hybrid electric vehicle (FHEV) powertrain may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P2C22, P237C and/or P237D stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to water intrusion in the exhaust heat exchanger.
TSB 23-22482023-08-10. Service bulletin. Some 2022-2023 Maverick vehicles built on or before 11-Apr-2023 and equipped with a 2.5L full hybrid electric vehicle (FHEV) powertrain may exhibit a shudder or vibration when the vehicle is braking at 15 mph (24 km/h) or below, when the gas engine shuts down and the vehicle is operating in electric mode only. This may be due to the software in the powertrain control module (PCM). To correct this condition, follow the Service Procedure to reprogram various modules starting with the PCM.
SSM 516132023-05-16. Service bulletin. Some 2022-2023 Bronco Sport and Maverick vehicles built on 04-Sep-2022 and through 30-Dec-2022 may exhibit the engine not restarting after an auto start/stop event with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P164C stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) may also become illuminated after the vehicle experiences a second event before it can be brought in for service. This may be due to an internal issue with the PCM. To correct the condition, check the battery condition and state of charge, then replace the PCM and re-evaluate the concern. For claiming, use causal part 12A650 and applicable labor operations in Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual. If the concern persists, refer to Workshop Manual, Section 303-14B and perform Pinpoint Test AA for normal diagnostics.
SSM 509732022-08-02. Service bulletin. Some 2022 Maverick vehicles built on or before 4-Apr-2022 equipped with 2.0L engine may exhibit a charging system warning indicator with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) U012D, U0284 and/or U042E stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). The vehicle may also exhibit a malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with DTCs P0036:00 and/or P0138:00 stored in the PCM. This may be caused by water intrusion in the connector C1050. Prior to performing Workshop Manual (WSM) diagnostics, inspect the male and/or female connector C1050 for signs of corrosion or water intrusion. If water or corrosion is found, replace the male and/or female connector C1050 with a pigtail kit and apply dielectric grease.
SSM 505482022-03-08. Service bulletin. Some 2022 Maverick and 2020-2022 Escape vehicles equipped with a 2.5L full hybrid electric vehicle (FHEV) powertrain may exhibit an idle surge and/or rough idle with high temperature in the catalytic convertor and sulfur odor in the cab. This may be due to the software installed in the powertrain control module (PCM). This condition does not affect vehicle durability and no additional diagnosis or service is required for this condition at this time. Inform customers that they can continue to drive the vehicle and engineering is currently developing a software update that is expected in the last week of March 2022. Once the software update is available, contact the customer and schedule a follow-up appointment for repair. Monitor OASIS for updates.
