What is wrong

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2022 Bronco and Ranger vehicles. The windshield may not have been properly bonded to the vehicle, which could allow it to detach during a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 212, "Windshield Mounting."

What can happen

A windshield that separates from a vehicle during a crash can increase the risk of injury.

The remedy

Dealers will remove and reinstall the windshield, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 18, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22C12.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

Bulletins for the same vehicles and component
SSM 513772023-03-04. Service bulletin. 2021-2023 Bronco vehicles are equipped with a smart windshield wiper motor, which has the capability of sensing load of the wiper blades coming across the windshield glass. As a result of this operational characteristic/design, the operation may not be what is expected in certain conditions. The vehicle is programmed with protection features to prevent damage to the wiper motor in case of overheating, operation with dry windshields, or obstructions to the wiper blade (snow, ice, etc.). In such conditions, the wiper motor will temporarily reduce its speed and/or reduce area of cleaning until the condition is no longer present.
TSB 22-20742022-03-08. Service bulletin. Some 2021-2022 Bronco vehicles may experience a water leak that originates from the left and/or right A-pillars and/or the windshield header. This may be due to excessive gaps in the body seams from the factory. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to reseal the affected body gaps and replace the front header seal.

A bulletin is the manufacturer's note to its dealers. It is not part of this recall.
