What is wrong
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2019 Transit T150, T250, T350 vehicles equipped with aluminum alloy wheels. The wheel mounting surface of the axle flange may be warped and cause the wheel studs to fracture.
What can happen
Fractured studs may allow the wheel to detach, increasing the risk of crash.
The remedy
Dealers will inspect and if necessary, replace the rear axle shaft assembly, axle shaft mounting bolts, and rear wheel lug nuts, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on June 28, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 21S21.

| SSM 47874 | 2019-04-03. Service bulletin. When removing and installing a 2015-2019 Transit front subframe, the cage nuts located in the body of the vehicle may become damaged. If the nut spins in its cage when removing or installing the attachment bolts, the nut can be held with a socket through an access hole in the vehicles frame member. It may be necessary to bend the tabs of the cage up and away from the nut to allow socket placement. The cage nut has been released as a service part (CK4Z-61105A38-A) and can be replaced if damaged. The replacement nut can be removed from its cage and installed in the vehicle's original cage. It is not required to replace the cage as it is welded to the interior of the vehicles frame member. |
A bulletin is the manufacturer's note to its dealers. It is not part of this recall.
